Absolutely. The military had to lower fitness standards of recruits and has to train new recruits to the level required to pass previously used for the basic PT fitness test to get into the military. They also had to teach new recruits how to manage their diet.

They should also include dietary education too to teach kids what their parents don't know or are too lazy. The obesity rate in the US is huge and something needs to be done. Kids aren't getting any exercise anymore. People blame the price of healthy food but it's not just that people are eating unhealthy fattening foods but it's also the quantity they are eating. Kids need to be taught simple things like you don't need to eat until your bursting, you don't need 3 large meals a day, you don't need sugary snacks in between meals, eat more vegetables than meat, portion control, drink water, don't drink a litre of soda pop with your dinner, drink as little soda as possible. Don't eat sugary breakfast ceral. Kids should learn that they need to be doing at least an hour of physical intense activity daily and at least 3 times per week when they are adults.

I was a fat kid growing up and it was an uncle who taught me about diet and exercise. My parents were raising me to fail and lead a miserable life. By the time I was in college I was slimmer, muscular and was starting to get a 6 pack. You can imagine how it was for the ex fat kid who was still a virgin and never had a single date arrives in college with hot girls everywhere looking to date him.

The only reason i was ever fit was because of those classes - its even more important to meet the health guidelines for children bec they sure as hell won't do it themselves

I think P. E. should be mandatory in school, but it also needs some refining.

A lot of these gym class teachers make P. E. miserable for kids and they end up hating and resenting exercise. By the time kids are in high school, they are standing on the fields with their arms limp at their sides and a look of anguish on their faces.

I voted "other". Politics should not factor into this question. I believe P. E. should be mandatory, but not the way I experienced it. In my PE classes, we just played different sports or walked a track field. Those are fine, but PE would be better spent actually teaching us about our health and bodies. Sex Ed should be separate.

Kids should have PE three times a week. There is a very strong correlation between being in shape and higher grades overall ( not to mention better sleep , less anxiety , less depression). This modern crop of kids needs to go out there and sweat it up for the future of this nation.

I have been through this in school and was bullied cause I was overweight after losing hundred pounds I'm on my way to losing another 60 pounds, yes it's been a battle for sure so I support physical education classes.

It should be optional. If I had that as a kid I would of opted out all the time. It wasn't like I wasn't getting exercise as a kid with all the tag I played with the neighborhood kids anyways.

Probably in elementary school, but I think you get pretty busy after that, though it should be an elective.
