Does anyone else feel like schools shouldn't make us do gymnastics in PE class?

We had to do a gymnastics unit like we've done in the past. We have to wear leotards with are so embarrassing and uncomfortable! Like it's bad... yesterday they made us walk across, spin, and jump on a balance beam. I ended up landing on my um.. private area in front of guys and girls... I'm so embarrassed and half of them keep asking if I'm actually a guy... we are doing it all week and I feel like it's unfair. Am I over reacting?

I feel bad for you. Do you feel better?
First, you know accident can happen in every sport so I guess you can't avoid everything. Maybe you can discuss the outfit if you're not comfortable with.
Second, people often laugh at injuries but you have no reason to be embarrassed. Everyone can understand it hurts a lot even if you're not a guy.
So I don't think you are overreacting but maybe just try to let it go, it could have happen to everyone.

I really appreciate your reply. It still hurts and it was so embarrassing cause I tried to walk it off and not react but I couldn't...
Im really nervous about it happening again.

I also don't like the leotards mostly cause we can't wear underwear under them because they show when we do... does that make sense?

Yes of course, the body reacts to pain, you can't really avoid it. I know it doesn't help but it doesn't happen rellay often you hurt yourself the same twice in a row
Is the outfit mandatory or something like that? You could ask the teacher to wear something more comfortable.

you aren't overreacting in my opinion. i'd also die of embarrassment if i were you. it might be best to discuss it with a counselor or something, if you talk to them about how uncomfortable you feel then maybe they may give you an alternative or something.

I never had to do that in school. We did things like kickball, yoga, soccer, tennis, etc. Your school is weird. Don't feel bad for getting hurt. That's just a normal part of gym class lol.

To actually answer your question. Maybe try to explaining you aren't comfortable doing it? I know people in my school weren't comfortable swimming and they were allowed to write an essay instead to get credit

Gymnastics dosen't seem like something you can learn how to do within a couple of weeks. That's something that I'm sure takes a lot of practice. It's weird that they would make you do that

The point of mandatory physical fitness is to help people be more healthy. There are obviously alternatives to gymnastics.

Sorry, but seems like a lot of drama over just wearing a leo. I’m confused, you said you hate people seeing your undies but also you aren’t allowed to wear undies under your leo. I haven’t worn undies under my leo in like a long time.

it's pretty common for people to be "dramatic" over wearing a leotard. personally, i don't feel comfortable in my underclothes (or something skimpy like a leotard or bathing suit) because... it's just uncomfortable so it's perfectly understandable.

@lrina thanks for sharing, I guess where I’m from it’s just really frowned on to complain about having to wear what adults tell you to wear. I know my parents wouldn’t hear me out at all if I complained about having to wear a leo or swim suit
