Given all the racial tensions that we still have in the US, would seperation have been better? Should Malcom X have led the Civil Rights Movement?

To be quite honest I despise MLK.

But I actually do like Malcom X.

MLK was a fool for thinking blacks and whites could somehow peaceably live together. He was an absolute dipshit.

ESPECIALLY when the whole idea of integration was forcing different cultures of people TO TRY AND GET ALONG.

I get that segregation was bad and it needed to end but forced integration isn’t the solution.

The idea is that black people can do their own thing and white people can do our own thing.

As oppossed to our current situation where blacks are left feeling unhappy because of white people making all policy decisions for them.

When has the victory of a Republican or Democrat in recent years ever translated to the success of black people?

And yet an overwhelmingly majority of black people still vote for Democrats. Even though it does absolutely nothing for them

I agree with the idea that you can't just magically mix two different cultures together when neither side wants to do it. But I would say that integration is a good goal and though it'll take a lot of time, it's possible to slowly shift cultures together, it's really inevitable. And even that aside, what exactly is the point of having a single country when you have two cultures that can't coexist? As I see it, Malcom X was a moron who didn't want to solve the issue of discrimination, he just wanted to get it out of sight, out of mind because it's easy and a quick fix. But having two separate groups of people who can't stand each other living in the same nation, even if they don't live in the same part of towns or even entire states, is still going to result in conflicts. That's precisely why, though slow, integration and mixing of values and cultures is ultimately better for everyone involved since it roots out the animosity and tribalism instead of just kicking the can down the road.

Remember that the civil rights movement occurred during the Cold War, and the Soviets made a huge issue of discrimination against blacks in the US. Creating a separate country for African-Americans (Texas had been suggested) would not have been possible in such a geopolitical environment, and even less possible during the Vietnam War.

The government did all it could to subvert Malcolm X’s movement. MLK, it turns out, was astroturfed by the CIA. His speeches were more or less fed to him. If you want to see what government can do to mess up a group of people, just look at the stats for black Americans.
