Should we bring back segregation?

Blacks to the left. Whites to the right.

With the University of Southern California now having "Black housing" in an attempt to give black people a safe space, do you think we should bring segregation back?

I don't usually like to give my opinion on this posts, since I want people to just give their own opinion, but I personally believe this is a HUGE slap in the face to all the black people that fought during the civil rights movement. You're shitting on MLK when you demand to be separated from others because of your color. 
This should be something USC students, black, white, Asian, Latinos, Indians... should fight against, we can't allow segregation.

What are your opinions?

Although I'm against this, I don't think it's as bad as forced segregation. Because what if some black people wanted to be with the general population?
I don't see how this can help, if anything it'll cause more hostility, if there's even any (I mean come on, it's California ffs).

I'm an SJW super liberal but I do not approve. Separation doesn't promote peace, it promotes intolerance.

I guess in that school it wouldn't matter. If people wanna segregate themselves then by all means do it. But don't act like a victim if you get treated like less since you wanna be separated from others. But as far as society goes no segregation shouldn't happen even though people keep segregating themselves on their own

The idea of segregation was that we could develop seperatley and then gradually come together as a whole, it was meant as a stop gap measure for hostilities away of kind of separating and letting things cool down and then coming back together. As we know it didn't work it meant that greater animosity came into existence, it was abused and created even more rifts and because your separate you stop seeing the other side as people who are like you and start seeing them as outsiders, the enemy. So no, segregation is idiotic and this black housing thing and black student unions and all that are actually creating a bigger rift rather then closing it because it gives special priviledges to one but not the other while keeping both isolated preventing them from getting to know each other and the struggles both face which would then give them common ground resulting in the removal of racial conflict. Its doubly stupid because we have already seen what happens when you do this so why the hell would we repeat the same mistake again?

No we shouldn't. USC is located north of the shitty' part of South LA. The area was predominately black/poor till semi-recently. Alot' of Hispanic people have mixed in now. Now it's un-affordable to most students.

Ill advised yes but it's a private college, they can spend their money as they see fit.
Also, USC is super generous with their endowment on everyone. It sounds like they're trying to alleviate the high cost of housing. My buddy was paying like $1100 for a room when she went there. It's insane.

I can understand the reasoning behind it but I do not condone it. Humans segregating themselves and being around people who are similar to them is nothing new to society. Since blacks make up a small portion of this school's demographic I can understand why they would want a place that can allow people like them to congregate together and take a break from being a major minority on a vast campus.

However, I do not believe it's an institutions job to provide an artificial setting for that congregation to occur. The University should not be meddling in such issues.

Self segregation is not new and has been a problem since desegregation. I get why people do it, but it just doesn't make sense. But it does have a lot more socioeconomic components than racial components. However, a lot of racial tension gets fused into it because of the discrepancy among different communities. It's like separating white from rice 😑

We were imvoluntary segregated for a long period over the course of history. Maybe its not a bad thing to have a place to be left alone? But to achieve this through institutional means, such as through university goes too far. Its not a university's task to do things like this.

If people want safe spaces they should maybe go to a country with only people exactly like themselves?

I mean if you cannot stand a more diverse environment for whatever reason its maybe best to go to a less advanced society?

Turns out Jim Crow just had a failure of marketing. Should have called the back of the bus a "safe space", and separate but equal "safe and equal."

What I find most interesting though is the fact that blacks are most often victimized by other blacks, so I predict the black only safe spaces are going to be anything but safe unfortunately.

I say let this play out, since the current generation could use a reminder as to why segregation wasn't a positive experience. Idiots

Yes, absolutely bring back segregation. No White cops killing Black people, or otherwise White people telling Black people what to do. Segregation means Black cops in Black hoods, Black mayors for Black cities, etc.
On the flip side of the coin, no Black on White crime, no cat-calling, no street harassment, no Black men raping White women, etc.
And White men may be actually inclined to hit on and ask out White women again. There are still White men asking out White women, obviously (me being one of them), but there are less every day.
