School will be starting soon. What type of safety gear would you recommend in case o/f a mass shooting?

As the person leading the class, I got one of those armor inserts for my backpack from SafeLifeDefense. They recently had a sale for 4th of July. It wi 11" by 14" so it would only protect me, not the students in the class. If everyone would get one though it could help.

And even though it is "soft armor" only rated up to 44magnum protection and shotgun slugs, it actually can protect against 5.56 when it is a few hundred feet away.

My recommendation that would work, but doesn't sound nice is to sit in a seat next to a fat student. Make sure the fat student is between you and the door/entryway.

Armed teachers and school staff. Less likely to be a shooting if there's a giant sign at the entrance stating:" Armed personnel, any attempts to harm children will be met with deadly force".

No gear, though a lot of gun shops are selling armor plates for backpacks which I think isn't going to be very effective.

Instead of gear, I'd look at the school's plan in case of a shooter incident. Ideally, they have a way to see it coming in time to lock the place down, and get barriers between the shooter and potential victim, or if it's reasonable, evacuate them.

My businesses hold large gatherings and, unfortunately, we have to prepare for such contingencies as shootings as well.

The couple of schools that I have been in lately. You need to stand outside and ring a buzzer. Because all doors are secured from entering from the outside. Then identify your self and reason you want to enter. Someone from the office will come out and escort you to the office. Which has locked doors.

At the office you again prove who you are and why you are there. Then you sign in and go about your business and sign out before you leave.

Probably not perfect. But it is something. Since teachers don’t want to be armed.

Designated fire team of highly trained SWAT officers on site as resource officers. Give them separate office/facility within 100ft of the school.

Revise active shooter plans, look at installing bulletproof doors or reinforced doors that can only be opened via scan key or code.

We’ve had problems with the school shootings long before Biden. The people holding meaningful gun control back are the NRA funded conservatives in Congress.
