Are high heels uncomfortable for women as neckties are for men?

Question

Asking because a common argument I've heard is that ties "choke" men and are comparable to high heels for women. I often wear ties, but almost every day I wear closed collar Mao suits, and never felt much discomfort - although obviously I never wore high heels. Opinions?

Heels don't cut off oxygen to your brain. At my sister's wedding, I was a groomsman. To keep things sane (and to make sure everyone's was the same color), they went to a rental place to get the tuxes for all of us- and the ties. For some reason, the ties were pre-tied; you just detached the end of the loop and put it around your neck, then hooked it back on. The loop was a "generous" 20 inches, which they apparently figure is plenty big enough for ANYONE at the factory, which is apparently located in Lilliput.

My 22-inch neck had some problems with it.

My mother worked some sorcery to get it big enough to fit, if barely. I was horribly uncomfortable the whole time, until the ceremony ended, and I took the thing off, refraining from setting it on fire only by remembering that it was a rental, and someone else might have the same problem down the line. Since then, the ONE time I was forced into wearing a tie, it was a clip-on, as it will be if I ever have to again. I could, with reluctance, tolerate the "leash" and "noose" symbolism; actually trying to kill me is something else again.

Heels aren't as bad for women as ties are for men (when the ties are badly sized, at least), but they *are* as bad for FLOORS as ties are for men. A 100-lb woman in heels puts more pressure on a wood floor than an ELEPHANT does.

Most men do not know how to buy clothes and dress themselves. A dress shirt should not be choking you when it is buttoned-up. A tie should be tight enough that it closes against the collar but it should not be choking you, either. I have worn suits with ties for about 40 years and never felt that I was choking.

I've never worn a necktie. I've worn heels that were extremely painful after 10 minutes and heels that were super comfortable all day.

I sincerely think it depends on the person. Maybe you’re really used to wear ties and collars so you’re fine with them. I sincerely feel very uncomfortable with them since I feel suffocating and usually my head becomes redder. Since I’m an anxious person and I have high nasal breath, I need to free my neck… so a tie is like something that doesn’t allow blood and oxygen to flow freely.
I can assure I don’t wear ties too tight, I’m able to tie them properly without really suffocating me, it’s only a sensation I have wearing them after some hours.
