Have you heard of the War of the Spanish Succession and its consequences?

Yes, though to be honest it’s a war I’m not very well read on. Lately I’ve been all about the 30 Year’s War. That and reading about New France.
I know very little about it to be honest. I’ve been reading a little about Samuel de Champlain. It’s a very interesting period in history.
I know the war was started because Louie XIV wanted a bourbon king to reign in Spain.
In the end he achieved this goal but so much damage was done to his country military and financially.

"The War of the Spanish Succession, fought from July 1701 to September 1714, and triggered by the death in November 1700 of Charles II of Spain, was the struggle for control of the Spanish Empire between his heirs, Philip of Anjou and Archduke Charles of Austria." per Wikipedia.
What in the world caused your interest in this sort of obscure event?
I live in the US. Be GLAD that your country does not aspire to world domination. The US is a poor country because of it in that the majority of our national budget goes to fund our military, which has not won a war since WW II. We are not what we used to be and we spend this money only to finance rich corporations and a relatively few wealthy people and politicians.
If you want my simple opinion, I think that the United States could make a small effort at the social level to help its people to live better, especially in terms of health care.
However I think that you should be happy to be American, Yes the USA is not perfect, but neither is France and no country in the world is perfect, we all have our past with our glorious side and also sometimes darker.
But look at what the US has brought to the world and you can be proud to be American without any problem.
And you remain by far the world's leading power, economically, militarily, technologically, and culturally, dominating the world with no problem.
Again, in my simple opinion, the United States should make more effort on the social level, but I think that it is still a chance to live in the United States compared to most of the world.
Yeah, I read about it when I was a teenager. The most lasting affect was that the UK got Glbraltar.
The name rings a bell, but I have no clue what it was about
