+1 yI don’t really think about people in groups unless they choose that for themselves. I don’t think immigrants want to be grouped together. I think they want to be thought of individually. I think the labels are what get in the way of meaningful changes. Whether people want to admit it or not, Drumpf was right. Sometimes criminals and ne’er do wells do come to this country to take advantage of its citizens and a broken system. We absolutely SHOULD screen for that in attempts to prevent it. But good, honest, hard-working and law-abiding people who want to contribute should be seen as the individuals they are and considered case by case; not grouped in with the criminals and deadbeats in the name of nationalism.
I also wouldn’t be opposed to trading some natural US citizens who are criminals and ne’er do wells for some immigrants with more promise, either. Ell oh ell!00 Reply

+1 yThat's a very broad question. Here in the US there have been way too many immigrants. It's a simple question of numbers. The country is vastly over crowded and getting worse. Over a million immigrants per year for at least a couple of decades is just too much for an already over crowded country. The vast population is probably the biggest problem in the country.
For that matter, overpopulation is the biggest problem in the world. Immigration doesn't help with that. All it does is provide a relief valve, when we are probably better off not providing such a valve.

So I believe that many countries need immigrants because either their population is declining or they don't have enough people to work. Immigration shapes a country and many "developed" nations would have nothing if it wasn't for the immigrants.
At the end of the day we're all immigrants but some people don't understand that.

+1 yWhat do immigrants think of the natives where they came from? Why are they leaving?
It’s just like looking for a new job, new employers are going to want to know why you left your previous job and what kind of baggage you are going to bring.

+1 yLegal immigration = good.
Illegal immigration = bad.
The legal immigration process needs to be streamlined and modernized. That, along with improved border enforcement, would go a long way in eliminating Illegal immigration and encouraging legal immigration.

@Cubus they can have more children but nations once they reach a certain stage of development often don't. Look at Japan's falling birthrate. You find a similar case in all post industrial modern nations. People don't want to have the kids to make the population grow. This is why nation's need immigration to make up those losses. It's an interesting subject worth researching if you're interested.

You know that there are developed countries that have high birthrate? Such as Israel or to lesser extend France. It's totally possible to have high birthrate in developed countries.
Immigration creates problems, because less homogenous society leads to social and religious conflicts, just how you can see in Western Europe now. That's why homogenous countries such as Japan are one of the safest in the world. And immigrant will also run out one day, because in African and Asian countries birthrate (where most immigrants come from) is also decreasing. One day there are gonna be no more immigrants and if you put all into immigration strategy, you will be screwed then. - +1 y
@Cubus Sure Japan is safe but they're going to go extinct in several generations without immigration. They've been desperately trying to solve it without immigration but failing. France isn't a country that is anti-immigration either so I don't know why you brought that up.
Sure, eventually, all nations will experience a decline in birthrate when they modernize enough but that still isn't an issue in the short term. The reason why countries like Japan are desperate to increase birth rates it because it's incredibly difficult to support an aging population with no workforce to replace it. - +1 y
"France isn't a country that is anti-immigration"
I'm not talking about immigration at this point but about birth-rate which is not depending on immigration. And it's not that only immigrants have a lot of children. White French women too.
Immigration isn't solving the problem. European countries are aging very fast despite this and some of them (like Germany) are gonna be hit really hard in 50 years. - +1 y
You can't force, but then your country would struggle economically because of too many people in post-productive age and too few people in productive age. And Western Europe shows that immigration doesn;t solve the problem. Countries there are the fastest aging in the world, despite immigration.

00 ReplyIf they come legally according to our laws, no problem, if they come illegally they belong in prison, just like Mexico would do if i snuck into Tijuana…
00 Reply1.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I have nothing against legal immigrants. My country has a lot of Ukrainians nowadays and they are assimilating really peacefully.
10 ReplyEvery 5 years they should be checked and get a new visa but in those 5 years if they do something wrong a like anything should be deported back to where they were born

00 ReplyMyself am one. Its upto the authorities to let them in. If immigrants are legal and abiding the law, nothing wrong.
