Should Sweden and Finland be allowed into nato?

I’m kind of torn on this issue, I understand that we need buffer states and the job of those countries are to be buffer states it would be like Russia having an army that it’s soul mission was to start the United States and Canada and Mexico were apart of this army. So of course you don’t want your enemies right on your border which is basically the idea of Finland and Sweden joining NATO.

now I understand why Finland and Sweden would want to join NATO I don’t blame them I wouldn’t want Russia coming into Canada or Mexico and having farms just on the other side of the border. Seems like a big issue where I can see both sides of the argument

Maybe a better question is “should there even be a North Atlantic Treaty Organization”? What’s the point of a treaty if it doesn’t prevent violent conflicts? It becomes a political organization meant only to APPROVE violent conflicts so long as they meet certain political needs. And NOT political as in “of or for people”, but as in of or for a government of special interests that is too far removed from its purpose to serve the population. It’s a hoax meant to instill a false sense of security and keep nationalists in support of war efforts that literally sacrifice many for the benefit of very few.

NATO is only kept up out of its own self interest.

Personally, I'd like NATO to be disbanded. Which does not mean that some other arrangement for interactive defense agreements can't be considered. One, that reflects present days' requirements.

Sweden and Finland presently are shitting their pants because of Putin's return to the middle ages. But that won't last for ever.

For the time being I could imagine a ''Baltic Alliance'' that co-operates with NATO until something better is found.

Or until Putin (and also Emperor Winnie the Pooh on the other end) re-gain their common sense.

Sweden and Finland are sovereign nations that should be able to take whatever steps they deem necessary for their own security. Russia will of course not like it because NATO was designed to rein in Russian aggression. If Putin keeps his army within Russia’s borders, he won’t have to worry about a defensive treaty will he?

There are 3 countries the world can’t stand up to the United States China and Russia. The only countries that can stand up for these 3 countries are the other 2. If the United States wasn’t in nato and nato went to war against Russia nato would be destroyed. The United States is the only one that can stop Russia but we can’t right now because Joe Biden is president and he’s way way way to cowardly to stand up to Russia or even China for that matter were about to be in a hot war with China because we elected joe Biden and Taiwan is going to the the next battle ground. It’s not a good idea to fight a war on both fronts.

That's also false. Russia is deeply not-religious because of years of communism indoctrination. Even though % of believers rose from the year the Soviet Union collapsed, most of them are religious-in-name-only. Average weekly mass attendance in Russia is 10%. To compare - in USA it's 36%.

Absolutely they should be allowed in. Not too long ago many people questioned whether NATO should even continue to exist. Due to recent events it's obvious it's still needed.

Those countries are not buffer countries. NATO has always been defensive. It's sole purpose is to deter Russia, or any other country, from attacking a NATO country. NATO makes it too costly for any country to attack a NATO member.

There are already multiple alliances similar to NATO, although NATO is probably the strongest.

The Warsaw Pact led to a defensive alliance that was the counterpart to NATO. As far as I know it disbanded when the Soviet Union broke up. The Warsaw Pact was also an economic alliance as well as a defensive alliance.

Cuba was something completely different. They were on friendly terms with the Soviet Union, but were not part of the defensive pact. There was a lot of misinformation about the Cuban Missile Crisis and what resulted from it. Cuba didn't even want the missiles, but it was more or less forced on them. Cuba would have been the one who really suffered if war broke out and they didn't want any part of it. If the US attacked Cuba, very likely the Soviets would have sacrificed them rather than getting involved in an overseas war with the US.

With NATO and the Warsaw Pact, they had two armies facing off in Europe, especially in Germany. Because the two sides were so close, if either attacked there would be immediate massive war. The price to attack was too high for either side.

Canada is already part of NATO. Even if they weren't, there is no way anyone could attack Canada without the US getting involved.

I don't really remember the Cuban Missile Crisis. I sort of do, but only vaguely. I remember the aftermath more than the crisis itself. I remember that Kennedy was presented as a hero. I know better now. I know he is the most over-rated president during my lifetime.

A stronger NATO is a stronger United States. As a conservative who I presume is worried China will attack us, Sweden and Finland joining NATO just help prevent that.

Finland beat the Soviet Union in the 1940 winter War. why wouldn't you want an ally that effective on your side?
