Sweden's NATO membership bid, Ankara's Stockholm
He is facing an exit as handing over Kurdish activists and blocking rallies attacking Turkey's use have strained tensions.

Erdogan is asking Stockholm to take more measures against the PKK, which is known as a terrorist organization by Turkey and its Western enemies.

On the other hand,;

Turkish President Erdogan suggested that Ankara may accept Finland's accession to NATO, but Sweden will not be able to join.

Turkey is both friendly towards Russia and hostile towards "the west" for a various number of reasons which makes their membership of NATO problematic all around for exactly reasons like this. Full disclosure, I am Swedish and I am generally against NATO membership. I see NATO as an extension of American soft power so I dont feel like Sweden should willingly jump into it for no reason and I do not feel like Russia is any threat what so ever to Sweden. I can understand if Finland wants to join however.

So why is Turkey such a dick right now? Part of it is because they are helping Russia and part of it is because Turkey is in a REAAAAALLY bad spot with both financial and social problems that threatens to rip the country apart so they are trying to both milk as many concessions as they can from literally anyone they can manage as well as desperately needs Russia to bail them out with cheap oil, gas and goods to stave off economic collapse.

As such, Turkey is being a tiny bit dramatic and needy right now. Works out in my favor quite frankly if Finland joins NATO and Sweden does not because of this since it allows Sweden to look strong in the face of Turkish demands but I doubt it will go that way since USA will put their thumb on the scales and make sure that Sweden will be able to join one way or another.

Turkey seems to be very determined on this issue. If Sweden does not meet their demands, Turkey is the party that will not listen to the United States.

No, they are not determined. They are just asking for a high price. Perhaps not out of greed, but out of need since they are the ones who are desperate in this situation. That said, Turkey is a small player so USA might very well throw them a bone to shut them up rather than having to deal with their drama. Alternatively they might tell Sweden to give what Turkey want and then hand Sweden something under the table to compensate for the inconvenience. Either way, USA could very easily resolve this anytime they wanted.

Yes. That is generally how these things work. USA is pretty good at getting what they want, which in this case is to expand NATO by including strategically important countries like Finland and Sweden. For USA that is faaaar more important than any minor concession Turkey might ask for.

Everyone who isn't upholding their obligations in NATO should be kicked out, and countries unable or unwilling to meet those demands should be barred from joining. Period. If that ends up leaving only a few countries left, then so be it. When member nations have the means of dragging the rest of them into war, you can't make exceptions to other obligations.

Sweden *might* be able to meet those demands, but I seriously doubt Finland can, or has any serious interest in anything other than having someone else protect them.

Turkey is a major arms manufacturer behind Russia, USA and Germany so its voice is loud in NATO.

The problem with NATO is that it's largely defunct and become not fit for purpose. In essence it's an arms dealing club where smaller countries can make weapons deals with manufacturers.

This is why Russia doesn't really give two hoots about NATO, but does care about who supplies what.

Turkey was only allowed in NATO due to their geography. In the last few years Turkey has bought Russian MIG's and SAM's, and generally aligned more with Russia than NATO.

Not totally up to date, but like Israel and Palestine, they can demand all they want. NATO is a pretty clear silver dollar if they want it.
