Why do people not understand that when the government makes something free, it's not actually free?

I don't care what it is, if the government makes anything free, it's not free, it comes out of your taxes, in the form of higher rates.

It boggles the mind honestly. How can you be so willfully ignorant or naive? I honestly feel like those that don't understand that simple concept should not vote. They are the reason that the government is as big as it is right now.

Have you considered many people don't actually mind paying for stuff through taxes. We realise something such as free education is paid through by tax but it's paying these taxes which gives us the right to complain not the fact we voted or not. We understand the long term benefit of paying for free education means we won't have adults who can't get a job.
Should we stop free police arresting criminals or free firemen putting out fires? Perhaps street lights should only come on if you put money in a slot.

Free doesn't mean it's without compensation. Facebook is free to use, but your data is what they sell on at a profit.

Government giving something for free means it's profiting from it somewhere else, or there are saving being made elsewhere.
