Agree with other persons comment about Uk, its against moral conduct for a teacher to befriend their student outside of school, there's a fine line not to be crossed as teacher is in a position of trust plus its a sackable offence as work life should be kept separate from private life. Same goes for doctors/nurses and their paitents. It's not allowed and for valid reasons along with moral reasons

Not while they are still working. That was frowned upon but not only that--it could havre you lose your job if it was discovered. That was my district anyway.

Nope. In the UK at least, it will be strictly prohibited by the school, and teachers are also expected to keep any social media profiles completely private.
Although the age of consent is 16, in the case of someone in a position of trust (such as a teacher) that rises to 18, so even if the student is in sixth form / college, that still applies.

I don't think so. A Facebook friend opens up the teacher's private life to her students, and that's not a good idea. A teacher should maintain a professional (and caring) relationship with their students, but they are not friends, nor should they be.

I am friends on FB with several former students. However I would not accept a friend request from any current student. Once they graduate, I welcome it. I am happy to see my students grow and enter the workforce. Likewise, I am FB friends with two former students of mine.

I would say it's a slippery slope.
An FB friend can easily turn into someone you're close with through comments and DM's.
Ideally a teacher is better off keeping those worlds separate that being said I have a few friends turned teachers and their comments are flooded with students so I suppose it is unavoidable at this point.

No, It is not. Unless the teacher is a family member. Unless of course its a school Facebook page we are talking about.

Of course this is different for university and colleges but even then, most lecturers know that it is best to not get so personal with students unless a lecturer is the students PTA.

Not really. Personally I wouldn't care longs if they aren't messaging weird things, and it been even less weird to me if they are a collage teacher or uni teacher since students they are adults.
But socially on a whole? most people would see this as odd and care.

Yes but it's a bad idea if you are casually hooking up with a student to exchange any fbook message, WhatsApp, emails, msgs or late night phonecalls unless you are using a fake account of burner phone as these can be traced. Also make sure you coach the student to never say anything if interviewed by police on the subject and refuse to answer.

Sure. I had some teachers who were FB friends after I graduated.

I'd say it's fine if you're not currently a student at the school. If you are currently a student, safest just not to friend until after the student graduates.

Well my dad's friend was one of my teachers and I had him on my old Facebook but that's because I knew him all my life so wasn't seen as an issue but I'd say no on the blatant teacher student front until the student is an adult and they see each other socially like in the UK's case a pub because it can be seen as suspicious

No. You shouldn't be adding your students on social media. I barely ever gave out my email to students when leaving academies to keep in contact. I certainly wouldn't give them stuff like social media accounts or phone numbers.

Many of my old teachers and guidance counsellor are my friends on Facebook, no problem. Nothing bad has ever happened. A friend is someone who knows all about you and loves you anyway.
