Why are pets not considered as important of a responsibility?

I was talking to my brother about my goals and stuff and he says I have no responsibility. I have two dogs and a cat currently, I’m giving up rights to my mom or brother of my large dog and in exchange get another cat instead. And I need to get insurance on them (it’s one of my goals). We were talking about me getting a car and making payments to build credit. He said that I’m avoiding it and that I need to put myself first but my pets also matter to me. Pets have always been important to me and until I have a kid, hell even if I do they would both matter equally to me. He said I’m setting myself up for failure yet I’m not trying to live above my means.

The last statement definitely demonstrates a lack of a understanding of what a responsibility is.

I have a pit bull. I got her because I couldn’t get a cat. She doesn’t listen to me and if I were to get an apartment it would be hard to bring her because of her breed. My mom and brother are trying to get a house (my brother has a family and my mom wants here own place as we live with my grandma). I’m not able to get a house yet because I lack credit.

I do better with cats to begin with. They are my favorite animal. I had one when I was a baby, I had one who recently passed away and my other cat is targeting my mom’s dog who’s old and terrified. When I had both cats there was no issues with my mom’s dog getting tagged on.

I currently pay for his dogs’ shots which I’ve done out of the kindness of my heart because I love animals. I don’t love my pit any less but she likes my brother more and mom and with them trying to get a house it’s the best decision. She’s not exactly an apartment dog, never has been.

Set yourself up, then get pets or it’s they who could suffer if it falls apart. And they aren’t inanimate objects. They get effected by change. Kind thing to do.
