I don't know when the Democrats will get it through their heads that these type of things just cause people to buy more "assault rifles". It happens every time. Yet they keep doing it. Do they actually want people to buy more rifles?

I just don't understand why they keep doing things that have the opposite effect of what they wanted. Oh wait, I know why they do it. They do it to APPEAR to be doing something that is popular among their constituents. But what it appears to be doing isn't what it's doing - it's doing just the opposite.

People would still be killing each other more with illegal firearms every sec of every day then "assault weapons." More often then not these illegal firearms are also being smuggled and carried by the same people doing the some with all of the illegal drugs that the war on drugs was supposed to get off the street. Of course a war on guns would only create yet another war with zero end and only end up increasing the current issues and creating new ones. Just like the war on drugs and prohibition.

But like both sides of the political isle often do. They push an idea that we can simple introduce new bills and taxes to change reality. Like introducing a new bill or tax will simply change reality and fix a given issue. But no matter many times this is proven to not be the cause, idiots on both sides of the isle line up to vote for the politicians feeding them this BS.

by the way, you can own a car without it being registered and you don't even need to have a drivers license either. Plenty of children get to drive unprofessionally and professionally, a 17 year old got a drive in Formula 1 and lots of those drivers got to drive at over 60mph when they were younger than 10 years old.

Criminals don’t get priced out. The black market is always cheaper and when legal guns increase, so does the lucratively of the black market. Most guns are cheap enough, smuggled or stolen to offset any benefit higher taxes and prices would make. In fact, increasing it too high would just make 3D printing extremely lucrative.

Brazil reduced the price of firearm permits from $260 and $25/yr to renew to $18.50 for 10 years while expanding access and went from an all time high murder rate in 2017 to a 14 year low (34% drop) as of this year despite predictions the opposite would happen.

The fact that we subsequently amended the same constitution with spesfic abridgment of congress's power over arms however means the abuse of that particular tax is explicitly removed form the table.

@oddbeme There is a difference between taxing something to discourage it as Hamltion argued the Taxing power could and was used for under him against Alcohol, and using it to try and ban a product, as the Federal government illegitimately did later with so called unavailable stamps. (Ironic given it was rebellion against a far less consequential Stamp tax that led to the American Revolution. Who says the traitors who push such ideas this don't have a sense of irony.)
