this is so ridiculous.
+1 ySo you'd rather go broke by paying 50 bucks then to use a condom or use more affordable contraception. Are you one of those people who think sex is only for pleasure when its the total opposite and meant for procreation mostly or only.
The pharma industry purposely makes them so expensive because you are willing to buy them. Take responsibility by either abstaining from sex until you want a child or use condoms if you don't want to pay so much for a single pill. You are just doing what makes them money.

+1 yI don't know what country you are located and what options are available in your area. However, the IUD is the best birth control. You get it placed at the doctor's office and forget about it. There are two types. One type lasts five years; the other lasts ten years. With one time, you'll continue having periods, with the other, your periods will stop. The IUD has the highest reliability of all birth control (more than 99% effective). Insurance will often cover it. If not covered by insurance, it can be pricey. In US, it can cost $500 without insurance but remember you get ten years of reliable birth control. If you want to get pregnant, you can have it easily removed and you will return to fertility immediately

+1 yIt used to cost over $75. I think they take advantage of the fact people are willing to pay that much to use it. I think governments are allowed to regulate medical pricing ten years after a monopoly of trade secrets is established so hopefully the price will go down soon.

+1 ybecause it's called plan B lol incase of an incident or a lifetime commitment to becoming a mom. You can risk not taking it. 50 dollars will be nothing compare to the diapers, formula, clothes, items and so much more you will need to take care of a baby

+1 yYeah because it's an emergency pill and a lot is also the name brand. I've purchased generic plan b's and there was one i paid $40 for another one was $9.99 (AMAZON) but i dont know I've had some worries with the generic one id stick with the original plan b for emergencies or this $40 one called "take action" they also only work if you didn't ovulate already so keep track of ypur cycle for me i have irregular cycles so its always a hit or miss if i do or dont get pregnant

+1 yIf you live in America, why are you surprised that meds are expensive? If you live in a country with health insurance, there they mostly don't cover plan b, so that's why.
But other than that, one pill can be more expensive than many just because of economy of scale. Way less people need plan b and also they only need it once in a blue moon. plus when they need it, they only need one. The birth control pill is used by billions of people daily. That allows for way bigger production scales which reduces the prices massively.

+1 ythe out of pocket cost for an abortion without insurance is over $1,000 USD. would you have rather paid for that instead?
also birth control pills without insurance cost $50+ for a month supply.

might very by type or location then. think there are a few different pill brands on the market now.
+1 yBecause plan B isn't regular birth control; it's essentially an emergency medication to stop a potentially fertilized egg from successfully implanting in the womb. That's like saying abortions are crazy expensive (which they are), when they're not meant as regular birth control...

Well put out your hands one hand $50 the other hand $300,000 to raise a child nowadays maybe a divorce Maybe you have to drop out of school maybe you'll have enough food to feed the kid I don't know I think I would have went to different route $2 for a condom and you're both still happy

A plan B is a revolutionary invention designed to quickly fix an otherwise costly mistake.
Just think 50 dollars now beat an abortion or worse, a kid. Both woulda cost way more00 Reply- 2.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
+1 yThat's actually pretty good for the "Plan B" abortifacient.
Moral of the story: an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and all that, and taking prudent precautions means lower costs, not just in terms of dollars but also in terms of wear and tear on the human body.

+1 yBecause the manufacturer’s whole business model is based on people having poor impulse control and failing to use cheaper options first. It’s not their fault that cheaper easier more readily available options with less side effects weren’t used before people got to the stage of desperately needing their product and not being in a position to refuse to pay it. You’re lucky it’s not 500$.

10 ReplyWell yeah, you only need one and it keeps you from getting pregnant. Next time either be on b/c or use a condom.
00 ReplyBecause of what it does. Condoms are a hell of a lot cheaper, so if you don't like it, just use those.
00 ReplyBecause the pharmaceutical companies want to make a profit. They are in the business of profit not helping people. Listen to their calls with shareholders, that’s when what they really think starts to come out.
