It depends how the murder is carried out but usually the worst murders I've heard of include the raping of the victim. Rape is brutal not only because of the psychology behind the perpetrators but also because the evolutionary psychological responses that was developed (usually by women) because of it.

In murder it's over, and the victims family will usually forget in a couple of years or so.

But in rape you not only create issues for the family and friends to remember. But the victim has to live with it, but possibly will end themselves because of it.

Obviously murder. Rape is horrible thing to do to someone but they at least have a chance to live and recover.
