You judge hip hop from your own likes/dislikes/experiences. Which is fine.

What you find “crude, trashy, lacking dignity” other people might find resonates with a difficult childhood they need a buffer from people with similar experiences to remind themselves where they didn’t/don’t want to end up as adults. People use bad to heal from bad. Give them strength.

Country music fans and hip hop fans generally hate each other and yet both types of music usually fit exactly the archetype you just described. Either you get drunk on champagne and get a bitch preggo in the club, or you get drunk on whiskey in the back of your truck after a night at the strip bar. And yet somehow the fans don't get along. @Shamalien In country you could say it's all women, booze, pickup trucks, and tractors. I hate hip hop probably as much as you, but it's not uniquely terrible. There are a lot of genres of music that are garbage, and you can still find diamonds in the rough virtually anywhere.

I don't know about that, but modern rap music sucks. All I hear is profanity in almost every sentence. If you go back to hip-hop from early and mid 80's, now that is real music.
