Why do people get restraining orders as revenge?

I was wondering why I see cases where people will get restraining orders purely for revenge. I seen people still in love with each other getting them against one another.

Mainly because it's not too difficult to go to a courthouse and have enough paper work to convince a circuit judge to get one approved. Can just save any threatening and stalking communications, or really anything you believe you could be harmed as part of revenge. If there is one action it really does serve well, to force a person to move out of a living situation.

Because it is used as a tool to hurt you when there is no other way. Getting in trouble with the law is very serious and the ramifications can be felt for years. So try to avoid this tactic if you can obviously

I think they do it to hijack joint properties or children or dogs. If you file an order, the person you charge is the one who gets kicked off their property. They also lose access to jointly owned possessions.

Yep, that's the biggest reason even for a temporary one, immediate removal off property. "X and I broke up, not married, and they are harmful to me and my kids" kind of things.
