I think most societies have an idealized view of the working man, since they form the foundation for the rest of society. I'm not sure if Trump "wasted" money on coal miners, but it may not have been just for the miners- but for the rest of his base to see that he supported "working people."

Because they do the work for the "privileged". Who fixes your toilet, car and air conditioning grows your food and delivers it to Whole Foods? The elites look down on the people who actually work. Coal miners? Someone has to mine coal so that coal fired power plants can charge your Tesla.

Ok well that's a hell of a lot different than coal miners. Unskilled, at least when we take the term literally, refers to jobs that any moron can do. Flipping burgers for McDonald's, bussing tables or cleaning theaters for example. Not anyone can coal mine, whether doing it by hand (using a lot of strength) or by machine (knowledge of using the machine and troubleshooting issues).
