I'm British but mixed about the Queen dying, are you too?

The Queen seemed like a decent enough person, as was imho her late husband.

But should we become a republic?

Whart's the point of having a family or group who are "betters"? At least in republics, Presidents earn their positions. Kings and queens are literally born into it. And this applies to Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, etc. that all have monarchies too. We don't need these institutions.

I hate every kind of monarchy and fond of democracy. Monarchies are all charlatans exploting people. I am aware that modern day British monarchy is just symbolic and doesn't have so much influence on contemporary British politics but I still dont get how British people could accept that kind of hierarchical status above them.

In my country, Turkey, we refer neo ottomanists as "people with slave mentality". We recpect ottoman state as an historic figure but we absolutely hate ottoman rullers, sultans etc house of osman to be exact.

I am not sure about perception of British people nor their mindset but thats the case in my country.

You should stay in school then.

The Commonwealth and Church of England are just two of the global institutions the British monarch is head of. Other monarchies do not come close to the various others institutions their monarch is head of.

Netherland, the Scandinavians, Spanish and other monarchies are mostly just figureheads who are in charge of little.

Britain as an empire may be fucked, but many of the old institutions still hold onto their clout. It's why Britain can never become a full republic.

The UK needs to keep the Monarchy, they generate billions of pounds for the country, everything would just be much worse without it.

I agree with you. When I heard the queen died I honestly didn't feel one way or the other, I guess I figured she was old and her husband already passed so it would of course happen to her next. I personally have never really been a big fan of the royal family except for Diana and Harry, and I'm not a fan of royals at all period. I feel like all these families, whether British, Spanish, etc., are of the dark side.
