Not for my own country, certainly. The USA lacks the socio-political culture that would make such a system work. However, any reading of history will show the benefits of democratic constitutional monarchy in that it places the state outside politics and therefore conduces to cultural moderation and a degree of temperance and appreciation for tradition that republics tend to lack.
In that context, it must be said, Queen Elizabeth II was Exhibit A in the case for monarchy. She exhibited a degree of restraint and an appreciation for tradition that often acted as a ballast for her country in turbulent times.
She was a steadying hand and a unifying force. As Britain went from the stability of the 1950s through the "Swinging 60s" and the era that marked the end of empire and then on to the galloping inflation of the 1970s and subsequent economic contraction, British politics swung back and forth. However, in the midst of all that remained the Queen. A rock in a sea of tumult.
As Walter Bagehot put it, it was the job of the monarch to "advise, guide and warn" the Prime Minister of the day. This she did, but always discreetly and diplomatically.
Yet Queen Elizabeth had a way of making her views known. When the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia visited the Queen at Balmoral, it was something of an issue in the UK that Saudi Arabia prohibits women from driving. So when the Crown Prince arrived, he got in a car to tour Balmoral. The Queen got in the driver's seat and proceeded to race around the estate.
The Crown Prince kept asking the translator - he did not speak English and obviously the Queen did not speak Arabic - to ask the Queen to slow down. Reportedly, the Queen pretended not to understand and kept driving. Point made!!
The Queen also, the dignity of her office notwithstanding, had a sense of humor. She famously staged a tea with Paddington Bear. She also played out a scene with Daniel Craig - the actor who plays James Bond.
Beyond that, the Queen was a friend to the United States. Meeting 14 US Presidents and, perhaps most famously, ordering the playing of the American national anthem at Buckingham Palace after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Suffice to say, there is more to be said, but space does not permit. However, suffice to say, as the old saw has it, "we will not see her like again." Her stoicism, her dedication to duty, her love of country and her deep faith. These things made Queen Elizabeth II the "rock on which modern Britain was built." HM Queen Elizabeth II will be deeply missed.

I knew she was getting old, and that one day would die, but still, it's kind of a shock when it actually happens. I'm American, so there's no impact on me, but I'm still sad that she's gone. The year I was born, she was already the Queen for a couple of years. Queen Elizabeth kept the idea of a monarchy respectful and relevant, and never did anything improper, or fooled around, like some of the other members of her family had done.
From what I saw in the TV series The Crown, Elizabeth didn't even WANT to be Queen, and preferred just living a quiet private life, but the abdication of her uncle, King Edward VIII, forced her father, King George VI, to become King. Even George VI didn't want to be King, but accepted it out of a feeling of obligation, as did Elizabeth. She died not long after Prince Phillip died. May she rest in peace.

+1 yIt's not that I don't care, it's just that it's not really that big of a deal for me.
Like yea she lived a long time and has done so much for Britain... But umm personally I don't really feel she wanted to continue without her husband.
The worlds changing awful things are coming to light in the family. She's probably had enough.
May she rest and in peace10 Reply

Like anybody's death is sad to see somebody die especially a good person like her I didn't know her I don't know much about her I know that she was funny I know that she took good care of her people she was polite respectful she did things in her way and she didn't bring attention to herself not like Trump we could only been so lucky to have the queen Trump is a queen but the wrong type of Queen so like I said it's sad that she leaves people behind and if I'm right and she moves on to a better place than she is wide awake right now and she is looking upon us all
10 ReplySurprised when I first saw it and just indifferent afterwards.
Although I'm a little surprised at seeing the amount of hate people get just for saying r. i. p on the internet about it.
Although I guess I shouldn't be surprised, it seems there are two different people when it comes to this.
1. People that are sad and/or just want to give thier condolences to the late queen.
2. People that didn't like the queen for reasons and think her death is humorous and deserving.
And then I guess you got people like me that are on spectator mode about the whole thing.10 Reply- 5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
+1 yI mean, I'm sad in the sense that we lost such an influential icon. She's been around forever. I doubt there is a single person in the civilized world who hasn't heard of Queen Elizabeth II. She was the most famous woman in the world. She will be remembered 1000 years for now. She outlived all my grandparents. There were people who never knew anyone else, and I'm sad my children didn't get to know her. It certainly won't be the same. They seemed to be taking good care of her. I thought she was gonna live to be 100, but it is what it is. I knew this moment would come but I still wasn't expecting it so soon. Would love to attend her funeral but whatevs. The legacy she left behind will live forever.
All that being said, I appreciate your respectful critique of her. At least you're not celebrating it like those pathetic black nationalists.

+1 yI'm not a great royalist but I don't like the alternatives.
. I really dislike the US presidential system which I see as corrupt and very partisan.
My brain totally rejects the thought of a president Boris Johnson or president Keith Starmer, I think I would disregard my dislike of firearms and shoot myself.
The advantage of the UK constitutional monarchy is neutrality, the disadvantage is they can't be kicked out after a few years. However, I can't think of a neutral, nonpartisan president, so I think I'll stick with a monarchy.
10 Reply1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. It would hardly have been the Queen's place to pardon freedom fighters. The royal family is around to essentially be Britain's mascot, drawing in tourism. They are not supposed to get political. Queen Elizabeth did her job, that is all I can really say about her.

in the past the sovereign was involved in politics and had the power to grand pardon from what I know. I'm not talking about now. Even then a matter of life a death is not per say political. I don't know what to think it's said that they received the documents but never signed them. It's a bit unclear for me too thats why the mixed feelings
Death is a given, it just depends on time.
And the time she has had was long. Good? Yes. Easy? No. Impactful? Most definitely.
Sadness and grief will persist for a little while, but eventually we will all move on. We can commemorate and celebrate the lives of the passed, but we have more pressing issues at hand. The world is going haywire.10 ReplyI personally don't care, but the number of people I've seen celebrating her death is pretty foul. My girl is quite happy about the queen's death, and it's honestly really turned me off.
I get why she wouldn't have very good opinions about the Crown, given her ethnicity; but the monarch in question was extremely pro-liberation of colonized people. Elizabeth supported racial equality in a way that most people simply don't know.

+1 yI’m actually surprised and not surprised. Like I rlly thought she was gonna outlive me tbh, she’s been around since my great-great grandmother 😳.
But then not surprised bc she was super elderly.
I am sad though that it’s gonna go back to men in power from here on out bc it was powerful asf to see a woman in “power” like that.20 Reply
+1 yEnd of an era... I thought she was gonna stay forever lol... She might be as evil as people say but she was the most tolerable out of that whole royal family... I'm curious what the UK is up to now... It doesn't seem like anyone can fill her shoes... Especially that widely hated son

Then there is this... a Nazi connection with the Royal Family:
www.sbs.com.au/.../brief-history-british-royals-and-their-alleged-nazi-connections
Including a video of the late queen apparently being taught to do a Nazi salute as a child.

Probably not. But what does it say about the Royal Family of which she was a part? Should they really be celebrated knowing their history?

She has quite the mixed legacy. I was hoping for more change after her death, but it seems Canada still wants to cling to our Imperial past and present in the Commonwealth.20 Reply 3.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. My last opinions got removed for saying what I think about the queen or royal family so I will just say my view on them is negative therefore this death is not a negative thing to me.

If there was no succession, or rivals, then it would be a problem.
Nothing much will change.

Anonymous(18-24)+1 yWell I definitely won’t miss her, hearing the news of her death was kinda meh. All she really did was colonise, marry her cousin and give birth to p3d0philes. So good riddance?
19 Reply- +1 y
She personally didn't colonize any country, Phillip was her third cousin meaning it's that far from family it's legal to marry them (you can also marry your second cousin), and she didn't exactly chose to give birth to a nonce did she.. If your son grew up to be just that, and people blamed you how would you feel?
Opinion Owner+1 yThere’s a difference between choosing to give birth to them, and helping them get away with the charges. So yes, she should be blamed. She never held any of them accountable.
Opinion Owner+1 yAlso, just because something is legal, doesn’t make it right.
Opinion Owner+1 yPerhaps she didn’t personally colonise a country, but she was born into a family that did, making her still a part of it.
Opinion Owner+1 yWell that’s your opinion, and you’re welcome to comment your own opinion, as I have commented my own opinion. Since that’s all it is. An opinion. Not sure why you feel a need to defend her.
- +1 y
I'm not defending her as such, I'm just telling you the facts, which in turn looks as though I'm defending her. It's not my opinion. A lot of nations arrange marriages between even second cousins, it's just normal in most places now. If it was first then I believe that is illegal in most if not every country.
