Between the United States, Canada or somewhere in Europe where would you much rather retire?

Personally as a 1st generation, I find N America boring. Take Quebec City versus Toronto.

Toronto's boring. There's no real culture, there's no real history, and the biggest attractions are predominantly sporting events. Toronto street festivals are often planned in advance.

Quebec City's not boring. It has culture, it has history, and there's very often something you can go to from random street festivals to farmers' markets, etc. Sports, not as important.

Ironically Quebec City is one of the most European cities in North America.

I'd love to retire to the mountains out in West Canada. Beautiful, wild, lots of rock climbing, lowest cost of living for all the choices (region pending).

If you join up in a smaller community, you get all the big city amenities with lower costs and less tourism. And you still get to travel to the tourist sites easily if you really want to.

Toronto's an overgrown dump, overextended it's infrastructure, etc. My father's best friend was born there in the 40s & left when he was 17 of his own choice. As he puts it people in Toronto are idiots.

You've got great points and they're accurate.

That said, it has developed its own culture and has some pretty cool sights and places.

But yeah, it's an overextended dump packed like sardines with an unreasonable cost of living.

Most of my current team moved out of Toronto because it was the only way they'd afford a home.
