Why is it that conservatives call anything that supports gay rights or abortion an agenda but when they try to change something, it is states rights?

Conservatives aren't trying to change things. They are only trying to counter the liberals. That's practically built into one the main the definitions of conservative and liberal. Liberals are the proactive people wanting to change everything. Conservatives oppose that change, or at least oppose rapid changes without thinking it through.

There are a lot of things that make up liberal and conservative. The above is a major part of it. There is also politically conservative and liberal vs socially liberal or conservative. There are a lot of different aspects to it.

When it comes to state's rights, this is a philosophical view on the role of government. It's a view thousands of years old. Some people believe in limited (or no) government. Others want large governments with a wide variety of responsibilities. This has nothing at all to do with any of the other things.

Because many Republicans suck as badly as many Democrats do. With some exceptions, Democrats want to control your wallet. Again with some exceptions, Republicans want to control your actions.

Also gotta think, it's states rights only when they want it that way. Lindsay Graham, one of the top GOP and Trump nut sack carrier, wants to propose a national abortion ban, despite for years advocating states rights on the issue. Hypocrites

Those two things aren't at odds with each other. Something can be an agenda while also being a states' rights issue.

I just think the whole states right argument is a cover because when they lose at the state level then they sue in the supreme court to try and make it illegal nationwide because conservatives can't stand rejection like an abusive ex.
