+1 yI'll copy-paste my answer on the similar matter from another question:
People generally dislike original lore being shit on by folk who clearly don't care about the lore or origins of the story. For example, sorceresses in Witcher: in the books Yen and Triss weren't looking like gypsies and didn't speak/act like retarded bitchy fools, while Fringilla wasn't black. This shows a few things:
- Showrunners are driven by whatever moronic agenda there is, first and foremost.
- They have no respect for the lore whatsoever.
- They have no knowledge or care about lore, story, origins etc. whatsoever; apparently, they're bluntly unaware about regions of Zerrikania or Ofir in Witcher universe. Could've just made decent characters from those regions instead of "random" changes to the originals. This additionally shows they're unable to come up with something original on their own (which already resulted in tons of failed remakes of classic movies).
Besides, if things would be in reverse (if I'd be a minority), I'd be quite pissed off that I'm getting hired for the job not because of my acting skills or via some other merit, but just because "diversity" with blunt disregard of the plot, lore, canon etc. As if I'm somewhat of a handicapped token and can't get a role otherwise, thus I just happen to be needed to get dragged into shows solely because of that.
Nobody really cares about character's looks if it's an original story (nobody complained about Morgan Freeman playing god in Bruce Almighty, or Wesley Snipes in Blade, or Mace Windu in Star Wars for example; those characters were loved universally), yet when something that has an original representation, source material and/or a canon lore gets "toyed with", people with triple digit IQ dislike such moronic changes.

But if you had in fact changed the story in major and fundamental ways then you cheated us of the product we were told we were buying.
This is one of the reason people are upset about Amazon's new LOTR series, in addition to just being a boring and terrible story. The story itself is entirely different and incomparable with the with the Lord of the Rings world we were promised.
CBS kind of did the same thing with "Star trek" Discovery, they created a sifi show that looked and played almost nothing like Star Trek sandwiched between contradictory established lore in a already established time line which they also contradicted.
If that wasn't bad enough the new fraudulently-labeled sifi series wasn't even entertaining, it was sexist, racist, and frankly boring.00 Reply

The one on the right is how Wesker is supposed to look, he was actually chosen as a prodigy for a eugenics program so his blonde hair, fair skin and blue eyes (before he got infected) fits.

Just because whitewashing is wrong does not mean blackwashing or other types of washing are right. The cast should be decided depending on the story the movie / tv show tells, not based on quotas like a certain percent must be a certain gender, race or sexuality.
Spiderman did it right. I'm fine with characters like Gwen or Miles as they are different characters than Peter.

After all, race is just a social construct anyway.

No it still doesn't matter because changing the race of a character is so pointless. You don't need to have the same skin color of a character to relate to them so what's the point. Just keep the features of the character as close to the original as possible so that it is easier to recognize them as that character.
I have a better idea. If there MUST be a black mermaid then do a movie based on Ariel's friend in the TV show, Gabrielle. Have her go on her own adventure and have her face her own challenges. That would be a far less lazy way to do it in my opinion. - +1 y

on screen recently: around 10% not so bad compared to population.
Last century: barely broke 5%
Off screen (producers, writers, etc): 4%

There is no evidence that there is any malicious conspiracy to keep black people out of the movie industry. The best explanation we have is that black people make up a small fraction of the population compared to white people, as you made mention of.
It's the same reason why if I were to move to a place like Japan or India, the majority of their media are going to feature Japanese or Indian people and there's nothing wrong with that because I don't need to be the same race as a character to relate to them. That's why I find this obsession with representation in media so absurd and racist, especially when you go as far as to change a defining feature of a famous character to satisfy pressures external to the story.
If you really want representation in the world of TLM, I have a better idea. There was a TV show that debuted in 1989 where Ariel had a black friend named Gabriella. Why not do a spin off with her as the main character and Ariel doesn't even need to be involved? It's not going to happen because Disney would rather do their shitty remakes instead of doing anything new and actually doing work. - +1 y
This link takes a bit of time to load. But just scroll to page 4:

This only tells me what percentage of movies feature a minority which still doesn't prove that there is a conspiracy to keep minorities out of acting positions. It still doesn't rule out the possibility that they are *minorities* meaning that they aren't as common as the majority race and by that factor there will be less minorities applying to take the role.
Imagine moving to a place like Uganda as a white guy and throwing a fit because there aren't enough white guys in the media. The people will laugh at you for the same reason. - +1 y
All I'm saying is that your source just provides what percentage of movies feature them without giving any indication as to why.
I am speculating that because there are far less black people than there are white people, it stands to reason that far fewer black people will apply to take the position due to them being more scarce. I could be wrong but we don't know that for sure because your source doesn't provide a reason. - +1 y
Your first argument would make sense if TV and movies were not allowed to have the same actor.
As for your tribal argument, if you have any evidence that people are intentionally dismissing applications because they are black, sue the shit out of them because that is against the law.
I know because there has been a civil rights movement to make it that way and to implement affirmative action is to go to those who fought against discrimination that their efforts were in vain, as that is literally what it does.
