Also, Trump pardoned a lot of the witnesses and in effect used the mechanism of state to try and teflon himself from much of the investigations.

@msc545 He may have taken advantage of some of the gray areas of the tax code. That is what you pay accountants to do. Millions of Americans do the same thing. The FBI and IRS have gone through Trumps tax returns with a fine tooth comb. They found nothing they could charge him with. Now they are trying to get him on fraud claiming he inflated the worth of some of his real estate holdings. Most people are laughing at the charges and it is really apparent that this will also go nowhere.

Varying the stated valuation of assets to avoid taxes or obtain loans is called, respectively, tax fraud and loan fraud.

Any legitimate bank has appraisers look at whatever property is being put up as collateral. The important figure is the value to loan figure. Is the amount of money borrowed less than the value of the building. If this ever goes to court it will be shown that there was no fraud since the appraisers agreed that the building was worth at least the amount of money borrowed.

DOJ can keep reviewing the documents that they were previously ordered not to review by a lower court. They are reviewing them to try to decide whether or not to indict Trump.

Trump's defense that HE declassified these documents is invalid according to this finding.

@Tyrael because we don’t even know what exactly Trump is being charged with. Trump never denied having the documents; he was even in communication with the FBI about how to store the documents. So the fact the documents aren’t being excluded from the case has little significance because if Trump didn’t deny having them and he was talking with officials about how to safely store them; what crime was even being committed?

They're reviewing those records to find out if a crime has been committed. So I'd say having access to those records it's pretty important.

I concede that is possible, but unless the trial court fucks up his civil rights (very doubtful), it is highly unlikely that even the present court would do that given the really bad optics it would generate. Any appeal will need to go to an appellate court first which will take a long time, and then to the Supreme Court which will also take a long time. He is not the President anymore and fast-tracking it would also result in bad optics.

He has not been charged with anything as yet or received due process in court or convicted of anything - yet. So no jail - yet. That may or may not happen but the process is in motion.
