Why does the right-wing associate with so many nut cases?

In a nutshell, free speech. When you believe the earth is flat, ruled by a lizard elite and the government puts mind control drugs in your toothpaste, most people tell you to shut up or call mental health services to come and put you in a padded cell. Right wingers however encourage you to bang on about how stars are really holes in a bucket so we can breathe.
The fact is people don't like to be told they're idiots, the right knows if you give these people a voice they'll vote for them,

They say it is free speech, but it seems more like harassment. And the people who believe in them need serious help. The ones that make up these know what they are doing, and maybe they do it for entertainment, sure, but a guy going to a pizza shop with a gun or people harassing victims of school shootings need to be put on medication.

The left associates with just as many if not more nut cases, both are very broad collations as is necessary to cover half the country.

Your looking at infra-party political propaganda which is choosing to focus upon and overstate the extremism of select figures as a means of making their own collation look more agreeable by comparison.

In reality, its only the leaders and the policies that are actually elected and implemented that matter.

Because most of them are nut cases themselves. Poorly educated people, jealous of those smarter than they are, easily manipulated by conmen and peddlers of conspiracy theories and ultra paranoid about not being able to buy a 6th AR-15. These are not well people.
