Was society so much better when people kept their dirty and dead skeletons in the closet?

Since that time we let people express their sick idea's and sexualities in the public domain and beyond the bedroom/closet the world has become cesspool of sickness and immoral behaviours with no moral or ethical guidance. It was so much better when people kept their stuff in the closet because no one cared to hear about what you did or how you did it.

Why have we as a society embraced mental sickness as a logical choice in how society should function where there is no reason or logic to it. Rather a world that say's "Anything goes" has made our children test subjects for these people who would do them harm.
