From the time the USA swung into action in WW2 up to the depletion of Bill Clinton's Trillion Dollar Surplus that was wiped out into a Billion Dollar Deficit by reckless George Bush Jr.
We can never be THE industrial might we once were anymore since we outsourced jobs & technology to the Chinese & many others who copied everything we taught them just for American businesses to save money on labor costs domestically.
Furthermore, now that minimum wage is so high, young kids with little or no ambition think "why bother getting higher education when I can earn better than my hard-working educated peers with a lowly fast food job I can easily get while being dumb as a doorknob!"
2. I/We long for"
a) I long for strong, wise leaders to exact executive orders to freeze & drop the prices of daily essential commodities in order to prevent big businesses from exploiting everybody and allowing Americans to save money.
b) I long for Americans to stop clamoring for higher wages while opting to contribute less while get dumber in the process.
c) I long for the jobs we could have had to return home and give them to legal citizens who'll finally agree to accept a little pay cut in exchange for job security & benefits.
Meanwhile, our military adversaries are growing and getting better & better. Therefore, we should think like underdogs and figure out ways to defeat them in case of conflicts. However, it's better to mind our own business yet get ready.
d) I long for the Reagan era military might that looked so awesome & formidable without losing secrets to our enemies.

From around the 1920-2012 the economy was good in the 1920 and 1950s the civil rights movement of the 1960s showed the world that even though we have racism in our past we can move past that we got to the moon. 1970s we took over the Hollywood scene we were already looked at for inspiration from the 30s-60s but with the implications of CGI allowed the move industry to sore to new hires. The 80s we had a great economy after region through one of the worse economic resections in U. S history. We also defeated the communist. The 1990s we were the top economic powerhouse of the world same with early 2000s 2008 we started to decline but we did elect our first black President who was suppose to bring us unity. Unfortunately Obama continued to screw up our economy and divide us by race sex class and who we like to sleep with by 2012 by 2016 Americans were pissed off so we elected trump after being called rubes morons uneducated etc by the Democratic Party. Now we are still the greatest country in the world but we have the worst leader in history in joe Biden and a Democratic Party who only cares about Elites and will get us into nuclear war with Putin because we elected a complete moron who will destroy the country and the way things are going the world
Sure The great depression was horrible yet the United States was still the most powerful economic country in the world by that point the entire world was going through a Great Depression. We were still number 1 in terms of economic power even the British who was an empire at the time could hold a candle to our economy (and frankly the great depression last eight years longer because government got involved because government sucks at this job) 1970s weren’t great either but we were still the best economy and a beacon to liberty and freedom around the world. (Except in Vietnam because again a failure of government). Carter wasn’t a good president hence why he was one of the few presidents that actually served one term. Being ten (Gerald Ford for some reason is counted on that list I personally don’t count him because he was never elected to president or vice president he’s actually the only president we’ve had that’s never been elected and to an executive branch position) but that being said we were still a great nation. As of 2012 we started to see the decline of our nation because of the racial intersectional politics brought forth by Barack Obama. Not because of skin color but because of ideology

It wasn't perfect but it was a time when I think people were rarely at each other's throats or at least to the degree when it's not when people of each side were declaring each other to be evil people.
Back when the activist groups weren't constantly trying to invade your daily life (except for feminism, they always did that), when the KKK, Neo-Nazis and racial supremacists were considered jokes and not worth worrying about and back when our constitutional rights were at least a little more respected.
Now all of these fears are back, essentially beating a dead horse, and causing senseless domestic conflict. People are so afraid of things that have already been criminalized that they are willing to flush whatever freedoms they had left down the toilet at the drop of a promise to give you free shit.

A truly great country would never depend on other countries for natural resources, attempt to police the world or have a government that is corrupt there is no line between it and big businesses, big banks or wall street. Arguably, I think the highest point in US history was when the founding fathers first wrote down "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." in the declaration of independence.
Before the ink was even dry this dream was already dead and buried and at no point since has USA ever lived up to this promise.
America started really being great after WW2. The country led the world in just about everything during the 50s and 60s. We had the moon landing and the interstate highway system. Even after the country was in turmoil during the Vietnam era it was still the gold standard. I think it all started to unravel when Nixon resigned. The collective nation lost it's trust and lost it's compass. I think President Trump tried to bring some of this back but I am afraid it is too late.
Just after the dinosaurs and ice age. When it was starting to warm up again. It was a pleasant temp. Major surviving predators were dispersed over greater distances. It seems like it would have been a good springtime to be alive in pre USA.

It's a fictional time. You ask 100 people, most will say it was great in this time period. It won't be the same. If anyone gives a 10 year period for a time it was great, I can list a lot of bad things that happened then, making it less great than it was.
I say the 50s. Back then the average family could have 3 plus children and live in a very large homes with 2 cars go on vacations and still maintain a modest Bank account. Today. You're lucky to raise 1 child and afford a mortgage with no glamorous vacation. Let alone make a decent middle class yearly salary.
