Interfaith dating problem?

So there's this Muslim guy in my college who I really like. He's sweet, funny and very very good looking. We have done a couple of assignments together and gotten along well with each other. I don't know if he truly likes me or is just being nice but I'd like to get ahead with him. Being a Hindu myself, I see a lot of trouble coming from the society. Even some Hindu guys of my college have threatened me that if I hang out with him more then I'll have to face the 'consequences' of my 'actions'. One of them said that they'd report the matter to some extremist organisations in the country for his moral policing and having his sister and mother raped! Yes you read that right. I tried reporting this matter to the police and they said it'll only invite more trouble and that I should stop seeing this guy. My parents are open to me dating a person of other faith but this society is making me sick. What do I do?

You get a concealed carry license and buy a handgun.
Why?
If the Hindu guys come for you, shoot them.
If the Muslim guy comes to behead you in an honor killing, shoot him.

@abc3643 it's not very easy. The situation is very bad. They're literally worshipping and glorifying rapists these days just because they gangraped a Muslim woman with a child in her womb. There's been a lot of communal hate.
