There is a lot of overlap between gatekeepers and fascist, and indeed a lot of cause-effect going in both directions. But they needn't be intertwined. If a gatekeeper dedicates themselves to the task of making themselves uneccisary in a way that doesn't require others to live the way the gatekeeper says but by some set of rules logically derived from some objective understanding of the situation, then they are likely to avert fascism. Additionally, if a fascist genuinely believes they are working towards a greater good (i. e. fending off an alien invasion) and needs people to follow orders swiftly and faithfully for that purpose, instead of just maintaining their own grip on power, they are unlikely to strive to be a gatekeeper to force loyalty. But these are both outliers..

Corporations have existed for centuries. They will work for anybody and any government as their only goal is profit to it's stakeholders whoever they may be.
