I agree with Elon Musk that de-escalation and a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine are extremely necessary at the moment. It's obvious to me that the neocon/Biden's "madman approach" can only lead us to WW3 or worse, a nuclear war.

What benefit can we get from a world war?

How would our lives get improved by that?

Why should I care about the "liberal world order" or the "rules based order"?

Under the public international law, the secession of those republics from Ukraine and subsequent union with Russia are both valid and based on a source of international law.

The Russian leadership made it clear years ago that they would never accept NATO in Ukraine. Period. Turning Ukraine into a de facto NATO member (or even worse, a de jure one, as it was promised to the Ukrainian leadership) was extremely risky for very little benefit to the American foreign policy. George Kennan warned US policymakers not to follow such path, and recently even Henry Kissinger did so.

There is no reason morally or legally to support Ukraine in their war with Russia. The laws NATO wrote up actually support the right of regions of Ukraine to split from their home country and either form new nations or join others if they desire it. well, I guess that we have to look at the evidence. Putin is a dictator: he's condemned the Christianity, rules by fear and propaganda, forcing people to join in his war... I can go on and on about his human right violations. NATO was never a concern until AFTER he invaded... just one of his many excuses. historically, NATO has been an organization has been to stop threats and deal with other issues. are their shady dealings that happen through? wouldn't be surprised. but, an organization whose purpose is to spread freedom and democracy would certainly be a threat to a dictator.
