Lincoln said "The philosophy of the schoolroom in one generation will be the philosophy in government of the next". For the last six decades God in general and Christian beliefs in particular have been watered down in Western society, especially in America. The result: the number one cause of death under age of 21 is now suicide. Teen pregnancy rates are spiking alongside new, virulent sexually transmitted infections almost unheard of 40 years ago. Children are murdered at school so often the killings no longer make international news. Gun lobbyists own the US government and prevent the same laws being enacted in America that every other developed Western society has in place to protect their citizens.
The state religion of America is death. You export it. Your military spending is more than the next three countries combined. You send soldiers where other religions send missionaries to "convert" the population to your philosophy.
You tax the poorest to increase the status of the richest. In England that behaviour led to the Magna Carta in the 13th Century, as well as multiple civil wars over the following 800 years. The poorest in England lived in hovels. In America the equivalent seems to be trailers or the "projects" depending on the level of melanin in your skin.
You worship money and self above all else. Friedman Economic Policies and Reagan's vision created what you have. You sacrifice the lives of your own children in this worship, either by abandoning them to raise themselves or by denying them the opportunity to live ex-utero for "economic" reasons.
In two generations your way of life will be gone thanks to negative population growth.
Religion can and has been co-opted over the centuries to be used in order to control and govern people. The irony behind it is that the whole basis of Christianity is mortal agency and the ability of each person to choose what they do in life. For that purpose alone, the founding fathers of our nation wanted to make sure that no religion would be established as a governing religion to be weaponized or force people to be moral. That was tried all throughout the dark ages with Catholicism determining who was king, and who was of nobility. Our founders wanted freedom of religion, but not to have religion be the governing authority. No religion should be prohibited from practice. Just like religion should not not dictate government policy, government policy should not dictate peoples religious beliefs. Forced morality is in and of itself immoral. It would be up to the American people on earth they could maintain a constitutional government or not. The constitution is made for a moral people. But the people have the choice on if they want to be moral or not. In the moment morality stops completely, is the moment we will lose this nation! The key being that such morality cannot and should not be forced upon the people by an established religion.
I think I know what they thought about it and I also think that it gets routinely ignored these days. If this country actually lived by the teachings of Jesus we would not have the sort of wars and crime and poverty that we do.

It’s not exactly cut and dried though, right? US currency reads “In God We Trust”. When you testify in a court of law you will almost certainly swear on a bible. The pledge of allegiance acknowledges “God”, and our national anthem mentions “Heaven”. Most of our major laws are based on religious values, and so are many of our systemic penalties for breaking those laws. The earliest pilgrims came here to escape religious oppression and persecution. The Catholic church WAS the law in Europe at the time. That’s the reason they wanted religion separated from the state. Regardless, religion is intrinsic in our society and some suggest in our very being. What exactly is the point of this post?
Not exactly. They did not want to establish a state religion, but did not push "separation." The First Congress literally established Chaplains for the House and Senate. They also let stand the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 which in its third article announced that schools and means of education were to be encouraged, because religion, morality, and knowledge were necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind.
Heck, the Sunday after he wrote his "Separation" letter, Jefferson went to church services in the House of Representatives building, so even he clearly did not mean what modern revisionists think.

Jefferson was a Deist, Adams was descended from Puritans and regularly attended church, much of the abolitionist movement stemmed from a religious view that we are all God’s creatures worthy of freedom—which was expressed politically. Hell, even George Washington added, “So help me God” at the end of his oath as president.
Congress shall make no law establishing a religion, but it’s very naive to think that it hasn’t always been present in politics in America or informed politicians.
Read the letters they wrote rather than some quote pamphlet you take as truth. Do you not realize how stupid this looks…. you’ll believe anything obviously. I’m not even going to try…..

You know that the Senate voted unanimously to accept a treaty saying "As the Government of the United States…is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion..." in 1797, when the founders were still very much around.
I don't have to wonder. The Founding Fathers were very clear in maintaining a separation of church and state while acknowledging the existence of a higher authority.
Funny thing that you only picked those of them that had such views to prove your theory correct, but skipped founders that thought otherwise (like George Washington or Benjamin Franklin).
I know this opinion is not popular among most white people but since they mixed race and state because they owned slaves themselves and yes all of them, they really didn't care about religion and politics.
It is not constitutional, per the establishment clause of the first ammendment. Political leaders can have religions and religious beliefs, but religion cannot be infused with the State.
