"That's the neat part"

That's the whole point of storytelling. Really bad things happen in real life and storys can help you brace for it and learn from it. Do you think going in ignorant holding a baby corpse is any better? "Baby's can DIE!!!" That's not going to help anybody.

At the same time this is a midwifes career and passion. New doctors are being trained as fast as old timers are dying off in the setting of the story and real life right now. For them it's a full time, daily life job. Expecting and hoping for a healthy baby but always prepared for the worst full time daily life. If you ask those doctors "can Baby's die?" They will answer "yes."

It seems odd to me that this actual everyday thing is too much to watch but the crabs eating people alive, dragons burning people alive, horrors of war that spark more civil war on a few nobles fucking the wrong nobles and the actual suffering comes from the common folk who can't even read, is all fine and dandy. But that's just me.

I see plenty of them. With the advent of photography in the 19th century it was common for families to pose with dead children, infants included. It’s reality, babies die too.
