What do Scottish people think of John Paul Jones (the sea captain🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇺🇸🚢⚓, not the Led Zeppelin guy)?

He was a Scottish-born American sea captain during the latter's War of Independence.

I know the English refer to him as a "pirate."

Not only did the British pardon him they awarded the American navy Freedom of the Port of Whitehaven.
There's also a Paul Jones bay on caldey Island, Pembrokeshire where his treasure is supposedly buried.
