Do online bullies know they are bullies?

Every time I've confronted cyberbullying to the person doing it, the "bully" almost always tries to say they aren't bullying; they're just having fun or "being honest" with the bullied person. Even when they resort to adhominem attacks like calling them ugly, stupid, should die etc.

Do most bullies or cyberbullies know they are bullying, and do it intentionally, or are they unaware they are bullying someone?

It truly depends as people describe things differently I personally wouldn't say a singular mean comment is classed as bullying but meh

For me, telling someone they should die/should k** themselves or repeatedly telling them they are ugly or worthless crosses the line. I agree though, some people think that a single negative comment or disagreeing is bullying
