I'm all for instant background checks because certain people should not be allowed to purchase firearms.
I oppose banning the sale of any guns that are not fully automatic or larger than.50 cal.
And if 18 year olds can join the military, they old enough to buy guns.
Almost all the other restrictions are bullshit.
I do have some suggestions, though. How 'bout we ban murder and robbery. And maybe we can ask gangs not to use illegally obtained firearms.
There were a total of 18,000 firearm homicides in 2021. The FBI says that approx. 80% of all firearm homicides are gang related. So out of around 450,000,000 people in this country at any one time, there were 3,600 or so non-gang related firearm homicides.
All long guns (rifles and shotguns) combined account for around 4% of murders with firearms. So-called "assault rifles" (that's what they're calling semiautomatic rifles nowdays) are a small subset of that group and may have been used in 500 or so murders in 2021.
Yet, there are tens of millions of those "assault weapons" in the hands of honest citizens. They and the ATF call them "sporting rifles".
I keep specifying a year because the number of gun homicides has risen lately after hoovering around 11,000 for over 15 years.
To put the number of homicides in perspective, it helps to look at all causes of death. After all, 11,000 or 18,000 may seem like large numbers until you look at the total population of the country and realize that there were around 3.5 million total deaths in 2021. 40,000 died from accidental falls. About the same number died, and about 500 children a day are hospitalized, from accidental poisoning.
So, although every death is tragic, I'm not concerned about gun deaths in particular. It sure as FUCK ain't an emergency. I'm more afraid of falling down the stairs. LOL
I strongly oppose the Gun Control Lobby. It's all astroturf. I think the unending, hyperbolic echo chamber that emotionalizes gun deaths is a well orchestrated scam.

The right to use weapons for self defense, hunting, and even recreation is a "RIGHT". Which means that it isn't something "granted" by a government.

No, they should not be banned. Even if they are, people will find ways to acquire them, good or bad. It does not Elim the threat being people overall that have the intent to do harm.
Get rid of the gun, do we get rid of whatever people want to use as a weapon next? Vehicle attacks are becoming more mainstream now, we going to take away personal vehicles? What about knives? You wanna take my baseball bat while you're at it too because someone used it as a weapon?

That's exactly how the world works unfortunately. Speed limits were implemented because idiots drove faster than they could handle and people died. Seatbelts were made mandatory for similar reasons. Drink driving is banned in most places for exactly the same reason. Knives are illegal to carry on most places for, you guessed it, the same reason. Class A drugs are illegal because, can you guess? Idiots die taking them and commit crimes to get more of them.

Lets assume the 2nd amendment was revoked by the states.
Since there is no way to actually ban them in the US, it would seem stupid to even try. The US would need to secure its borders to even think about banning them, as there is massive gun trafficking on a daily basis.
Outlawing guns would remove them from law abiding citizens to defend themselves but allow criminals to still use them in crimes.
Police have no legal obligation to protect anyone, several SCOTUS rulings over the last 30 years and even more recent ones have confirmed this.

This is one reason I absolutely HATE Democrats/Liberals and think they should all die, because they think it is okay for me to die. Why should I care about them when they do not care about me.
Add to the mix, that if the US even tried to outlaw them, it would result in either a civil war, or worse... endless domestic terrorism attacks, if those in power won the civil war.
Think the occasional random mass shooting is bad now, imagine it when people see themselves in a war.
Mass shooting are nothing special, other than main stream media and liberals making them out to be. Most big cities have more daily murders than most mass shootings and they don't give a shit about those.

Certainly not in the US where we have a constitutional right to keep and bear arms, that is no more or less important to the freedom of speech, freedom of / from religion, right to a speedy trial, or the right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure! We do need more protections from “prohibited persons” owning firearms!

In an ideal world, yes they should be.
The UK and Australia both banned guns and haven't had a single mass shooting since they did. Coincidence? Maybe.
And we're not being murdered en masse by criminals with guns either.
