Why does it seem like happiness is next to impossible as an adult?

because of extreme expectation for yourself and others. people have this belief of if you're not a celerity or prodigy by age 20 then people act like your a failure. There's a lot of new burdens that we aren't properly such as working a job, maintaining a home, going to school possibly, dealing with taxes and insurance.

think about it, we've gone from being a kid/teenager were a lot of things were taking care of for us with the only expense being homework and chores. and now in your 20's and beyond facing the big bad world and having all these new responsibilities. large changes are hard to hand on top of excessive expectations, criticism and demands. which is why most young adult to middle age adults have untreated mental health issue.

Because you either have unrealistic goals in order to be happy or you have never had an example to follow to lead you to happiness.

On surface happy, sure. Deep down happy? I really doubt it.
