Twitter. Well, not directly, but what it represents: social media and virtue signaling. Why, for example, do members of Congress constantly bitch about illegal immigration (one way or the other) rather than getting off their butts and FIXING it? The country's immigration laws are AWFUL, and only 545 people have the ability to change them. So why don't they? Because it's too useful to fix. The actual human suffering the problem causes is NOTHING compared to the votes you can get by complaining about it. Tell your followers that The Other Side is breaking up families and wants to deny people entry into the land of milk and honey or is enabling sex trafficking and wants to impoverish poor Americans by driving down wages by throwing open the gates for all comers.

The two easiest groups of people to manipulate are those who are angry, and those who are scared. Anger makes you want to take action and keeps you from thinking clearly; fear makes you want to huddle down and hide and keeps you from thinking at all. Remember that, and 98% of all politics will suddenly become comprehensible.

Gay marriage is a human rights question. It is very much a "real issue" on the same level as free speech and such things. Inflation on the other hand is simply an economic issue. Its nice to deal with but its hardly the end of the world if you postpone it a bit to deal with more urgent problems.
