Trump thinks the us is becoming communist. I dont know if you know this but hitler said that about Germany.
3.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Good grief! Sorry, I am a student of history and have worked in politics for over 20 years. To that I would add that, although a Republican I am no fan of Mr. Trump and did not vote for him in 2016. (Though I did vote for him against Mr. Biden, having had firsthand experience with Mr. Biden and knowing him for the intellectually vacuous man that he has proved to be.)
As I say, I am no fan of Mr. Trump. That said - and I rarely speak with such frustration and emotion on this site - but enough is enough. The Hitler analogies are both grossly overdrawn and morally obscene. They trivialize what Hitler was and did and they overstate, for the sake of satisfying the emotional catharsis of the accuser, the mistakes and flaws of Mr. Trump.
Mr. Trump is bombastic and politically shallow. He is a populist in the tradition of William Jennings Bryan, Huey Long and - on the other side - Bernie Sanders. His politics is philosophically shallow and designed to satisfy the resenments and envy that permeate a self-satisfied and narcissistic culture like that which suffuses the United States at this moment in time - has before and will again.
To any intellectually serious student of history and political philosophy, this hardly puts him in the same league with Hitler. A man who espoused a theory of History - with a capital "H" - in which the competition of the races was the motivating force. A man who threw millions into the gas chambers and committed genocide on a colossal scale. A man who was willing to provoke a world war - with all its' costs in blood and treasure - for the sake of his racial theories.
Nothing in Mr. Trump's record comes remotely close. The comparison is morally obscene, not to mention dishonoring the literally millions who died at Hitler's orders or fighting him.
It is time for this pathetic generation to grow up, get serious and read a history book. Take your noses out of your i-phones and read a serious work of history of philosophy.
No, Mr. Trump is not the "new Hitler." Not even close, and those who make such an absurd and obscene comparison are not only intellectually shallow they are morally grotesque. Enough!

@Julie4 Thanks. As to your question, we live in an age where emotional catharsis is considered an adequate substitute for reasoned thought and analysis. Ergo someone who does not like Mr. Trump reached for the grossest comparison they can find. It makes them feel better, regardless of the substantive merits of the argument.
Thanks again.

The two choices aren't adequate. Yes no or maybe might be a little better. Obviously he's not the new Hitler. If all the things we were told we're going to happen actually we're about to happen which is in less than a month the people in America would be reacting a lot differently. People seem to be pretty laid back and happy. All the people who told us that if Trump won there would never be another election are talking about future elections. So it's obvious we were told a lot of lies by the media and people who parrotted the media's lies. Which many of you did and you're now being exposed as liars. I'm sure that you're going to frantically come up with some way to explain this away but as they say the proof is in the pudding. Fact any apology and admit it of being wrong. Ideologues and indoctrinated people are hard to get through to. Even clear evidence will not convince them of anything. Their mind and learn to live with people that are like this. A lot of them are good people, some of those people are going to change their minds and if they don't then so be it. They're not required to agree with me and I especially been in no way should be forced to agree with anybody no one should ever be forced. to think a certain way. That's and all these years but I've acted as an anti-fascist I actually believe I was doing what I said. I can't say that about a lot of my friends who did not leave the left when it began to take on an authoritarian nature. All I can say is that I don't believe that they ever cared about all the causes they claimed to. When you regularly spend time hating others and thinking about how terrible they are it's likely that you're projecting and there's something that you don't like about yourself. Look inward instead of looking outward in an attempt to find ways to insult others so that you can make yourself feel better about yourself. This is unhealthy and it's not going to make you a happy person as you grow older. Try to love more and be someone who practices actual tolerance. These people who talked about intolerance all these years seemed to think that tolerance means that you are accepting of the things that you like but it's okay to not be accepting of the things you don't like. The reality is actually the opposite. Tolerance is being tolerant of things that you naturally have a tendency to dislike or distrust. Being tolerant of these things can help you learn about them more and you will become even more tolerant of them and before you know it you're friends with people that you were possibly even racist against before. What a wonderful thing to see people that are actually able to redeem themselves rather than believe in a philosophy that these people can never change and that they should be hated or done away with or given up on. I learned these things after being hardcore leftist for many years. I figured out that I was caught up in an ethos and a belief system based on lies. I had to come to terms with the fact that it was hurting my character. I still suffer from the after effects of that ideology. It makes you believe in a world that does not exist. I always told myself that I would follow the truth even if it took me down roads that were uncomfortable that I did not want to go down. But I held to my strategy and it worked out a lot better than continuing to believe in a lie in order to be socially accepted or to be comfortable and not having to change. Change can be very uncomfortable but it often leads to growth and can lead you to a place where you're much happier. I wish you all the best and I want everyone to be happy. Even the people who hate me, wish death on me, and believe exactly the opposite of the way that I do. I want them to have freedom to speak to their mind. I wish them happiness and prosperity. I hope that their lives are pleasant and I've no reason to wish anything bad on people unless they're the lowest of the low maybe like human traffickers or serial killers or people that do nothing but spread pain and misery. I don't think that people on the far left are people that constantly spread misery. They're hearts aren't bad, they just think differently than me. I may think they are wrong but that is a matter of opinion and in America we are supposed to be able to have an opinion of our own and no one's voice should be shut down. Under no circumstances, even with tales that fascists are going to take over unless their voices are shut down. No, you don't shut down people's voices, you don't cancel people, that's not the way freedom works. When people start speaking that language and they want to shut people's voices down and cancel them they are the ones who are dangerous. History has proven this over and over. But unfortunately a lot of people in the United States aren't that well versed in actual history but fed a fabricated version of history that they've been told about which is based on lies, manipulations and fabrications. Created by people who are bent on taking revenge on people whose ancestor's committed atrocities. But these people cannot control what their ancestors did. They have no power to go back in time and change that. They're not responsible whatsoever for any of it. Case in point 1619 project.

I think the comparison stems from the desire to end democracy in their respective countries more than specific policies (Hitler's didn't become known until after the war).
