It's not about "prevention", it's about signalling loyalty. There's very little actual thought involved; that's pretty much how it's been since the beginning of the crisis. In total fairness to Biden, here, there are diseases spread by methods that wearing a cloth mask can prevent- in fairness to truth, lack of exposure is ALREADY crippling people's immune systems and leaving them unprepared for diseases that're actually dangerous (which is why we now have an RSV epidemic, too).

Yesterday I saw a guy driving a van all by himself, and he had a mask on. When the masters allowed restaurants to open back up, you had to wear a mask while entering the restaurant, but once inside you could take it off. When did humans become this stupid?

You can't get COVID-19 from someone unless you touch a surface they sneezed on without it being cleaned unless you lick your fingers (which may not be clean) unless you were in close contact with someone who might have it.
