Why is Vermont so much more left wing than neighbouring New Hampshire?

Vermont is the 14 state, first state outside the original colonys to get added as a non slave state with Kentucky also added but a slave state.

Vermonts founding was not assumed like the original colony and was designed to be more progressive at its intended creation. It really boils down to tradition.

Lots of Californians and New Yorkers moved in there. Not sure why they didn't go to New Hampshire either or also. Vermont used to have a strong libertarian streak, and away from Burlington, the older folks still tend to.

It is next to New York and a lot of people in Vermont are transplanted New Yorkers.
