Here's a question I heard asked the other day: how much does it cost to deport someone, and is it more or less than the cost of a 5.56mm NATO round? Naturally, I was horrified at the prospect of killing illegal immigrants, but it very much gives perspective on what "violence" actually is.

Deportation is "violence" in the same sense that being sent to prison for robbery is: it's the punishment for breaking the law. There are people who would say that that, too, is violence, but those people are morons. Some laws suck, and our immigration laws are a solid example, but the solution is to FIX the laws- they are a product of human effort; it's not like they were handed down from on high- not toss them altogether.

If you're sending someone seeking political asylum back to the wolves, like all those Afghan linguistic interpretators the US and Canada left to die.

Honestly doing the right thing from a humanitarian standpoint isn't easy or cheap but we shouldn't exactly roll out the red carpet either.

No, part of being a country is having strong borders and having your own people to take care of. Leave it up to the other nations of the world to care for their own instead (and if they don't want to, it is up to their people to decide if they want to change that or not. Not some foreign power).
