I think many become that way because of the Bad People they deal with. It's hard for them to shut off the Fight or Flight Mentality. When you're in that State of Mind for so long it causes Cortisol Levels (The Stress Hormone) to Rise and once Cortisol Levels are high for long periods it's really hard to bring it down to a Healthy Level. I mean they deal with the worst in society as a career. Sure, they do a lot of Social Work as well, but, when you're dealing with trash I think you have to have a Vicious Side. Sadly, it can spill over to Good and Descent People. I've had cops treat me like garbage and was just in the wrong place at the wrong time with no bad intentions.

There are a lot of cops in my family, and I know a lot of other cops too as a result. The vast majority of them are no different from anyone else. They are not more abusive or dishonest. That's just an unfortunate stereotype perpetuated by certain kinds of people.

Most cops are good people who want to do a good job and serve their community.

Back in the mid 90's a study was conducted and 44% to 46% of cops according to that study were domestic abusers.

I have known two cops in my lifetime, and both were abusive, horrible people and terribly corrupt.
