Why wouldn’t my landlord want me to Zelle her the rent instead wants me to give it to her in an envelope?

Transaction fees and book keeping. So everytime you use visa, Mastercard, AmericanExpress there is a Transaction fee that's paid by the vendor. It's usually 2 cents and losing all those people will cost more.

Zelle is getting a cut of the money someway somehow. It could be a high up front cost for a landlord.

The two main reasons that a landlord does what she did are to cut margins on taxes and banking. Make sure you get a written receipt or email confirming payment. Basically, she's trying to avoid reporting income as there is not banking trail. Just keep detailed receipts just in case there is a possible problem.

I guess she is not technologically savvy. Or, her bank is small and not or not yet a Zelle bank. (What bank are you using? Wells Fargo?)

For the record, once I learned about Zelle and realized my bank, Wells Fargo, could do it with ease, I was sold on it. Perhaps you just need to show your landlady how.

I’m sure she knows how because I done it for he past 2 months but just last week she said if I could continue to give her the money in cash like I use to before

Doesn't want the taxman knowing. Be careful though if you've no rent book she could claim you didn't pay her rent.

The landlord may not be the owner and may be embezzling funds. Keep good records.
