am I wrong? When I moved into my dwelling (photographic evidence) the smoke detector in my primary dwelling had a black cast on it ; I asked nicely for them to replace it in 2023 - they never did and I just let it go because I don’t want to argue with them; then in October of 2024 during the morning at 9am the carbon monoxide detector went off because the smoke detector had died. I called my landlord and he had it replaced BUT now is trying to stick me with the 295$ bill siting that my candle smoke turned it black! I moved in and it was already black! I refuse to pay it ; and my landlord keeps invoicing me! I asked the alarm company to ask them to show my landlord the alarm tripped due to being dead and they’re covering up for my landlord as well! What should I do? It’s not right or fair

Did you say you had pictures of the smoke detector when you moved in I'm sure the pictures have a date on it that should be all the proof you need
And where do they get off at 295 carbon monoxide tester there's cheap as smoke detectors you can pick them up at Walmart or any place and they're good
What's the brand name of the smoke detector and look it up online and see how much they cost and then look it up online on how much you smoke detector cost
Exactly! I sent them a photo with the date on it of the week. I moved in where it was already black.
I can’t take a picture, because the smoke detector is literally, I would have to say 40 feet off the ground on a canopy ceiling
I thought I had rectified the situation months ago, but I received an invoice for something I didn’t even break and to top it all off. It went off at 9 o’clock in the morning because the battery died, the guy needed over a 20 foot ladder to replace it.
I have a pelvic injury and I pay maintenance, why would I need to be responsible for this at all?
Hey Will as long as you have a picture of it it doesn't matter how far away it is cuz it can be enlarged and if you have to go to court you need to take that picture with you there's too many landlords that pull that kind of crap and it's wrong
CO detectors have expiry dates n very meticulous info from manufacture to installation. Pull the Info n research
