I'm the same as you. At different points in my life, I have looked back and thought I was really stupid back then, while thinking "But I have it together now." But a few years later, I'll look back and realize that I didn't have it together.
After while, I came to the realization that I will never have it totally together. LOL Life is a learning process. I continue to evolve.

Thats the beauty when someone can truly LEARN from others-

observing their own unique way, recalling their methods/ advice their knowledge in that trade/ and VALUING it enough to recall it for further, future purposes.

BUT YES,

many times one needs to know of the opposites to gain only a DEEPER understanding of any topic/ subject/ object. They can know of it, but knowing both sides of the coin helps a person to be experienced in that area.

After all, if I listen to confucious, then I'm taking in his wisdom. I don't have to go repeat his mistakes, to garner that wisdom.

I think stupid is part of life, for we don't know what we don't know... that's why babies learn so quickly what they can... to survive. They need wise counselors around them.
