Why is there a homeless person with his dog beside walmart' side door? Should I buy them food?

Speaking as a former functionally homeless person myself: where else is he going to go? Walmarts are open long hours, have bathrooms and water fountains, and carry very cheap food, if you manage to scrape together a dollar or two. They'd probably be grateful for anything you could spare them- but try to do it discreetly. The last thing they'd want is to be run off for panhandling.

I see it this way, no, don't buy him food. If anything, buy some dog food for the dog he took down with him. The dude made his choice in life to not work, and give up. There are many jobs out there that will hire someone off the street. If we continue to go around and constantly hand out our own hard earned cash, then we can't save for our future. He made his choice, but the dog didn't get a voice in this situation.

You really should not judge and immediately jump to the conclusion they aren't wanting a job or they chose that life, because you don't know the true reason for why someone is homeless. Maybe his home burned down or he escaped a DV situation and that's why he is homeless. Not everyone who is homeless is homeless because they have given up or they are refusing to work.

@Venting101 have you ever talked to a homeless person? I've had some ignore people I knew that offered them jobs, and they turned it down. Uet their signs begging for help asked for jobs. Their reasons behind it are they make close to 6 figure income tax free because people throw money at them because they felt bad for them. They scam people because they gave up and find it easier to take stuff from others. These are true words from several homeless people that were given chances by people I know that wanted to help. Plus, in some states in America, it is illegal to do that, and you could be fined and/or be arrested.
I stick by my opinion as to, do not help them. They choose that lifestyle. They have a choice, and they chose the one to scam others. If you truly want to help, point them in the direction of a shelter or food bank.

That's pretty petty of you.
You should go back there and buy the dog some food and water and the human being dude a burger and a drink. It will make you feel like a worthwhile person instead of stingy, uncaring person.

Then call me petty for doing the same and trying to tell you a better option is giving them information to actually help make their lives better. Which way would go further in life? I know for a fact mine will. Your method is enabling them to continue to beg, scam people like you out of money for a free lifestyle. I guarantee I help more people than you everyday with sound advice instead of giving handouts, out of my pockets. You need to see a larger picture than just a 10 second meet up.
Before you sit here and judge someone being petty, second guess yourself and think outside the box instead of staying inside those. Dumbass calling me stingy and petty. You should know what you are before you call someone else something like that. 😉

@sage2021 I see your defense is weak. Calling out things that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. You can't use your brain to think outside the box. Not only did I, or would I have given that person better options to be able to put more food on their table than going and buying them one meal that may last 15 minutes, I gave them options for a place to stay. I'm sure by the way you responded you'll block me, but thats what dumbasses do. They can't use their brains to think bigger, and have very little knowledge on how to properly help others beside 1 meal. So yes, I called you a dumbass.
