If my dad is English and mom is American, would you consider me to be English or American?

I was born in Tennessee (where my mom is from), but I've moved back and forth between Tennessee and Norwich (where my dad is from) my whole life, so I'm used to both the British and American customs. I'm currently in the USA, but I plan on going back to England sometime soon.

You are talking about two different things at the same time. If you were born in America you are American simples as that, but if you are talking your heritage not just where you were born that's another topic and you would have to look into your mother's heritage. If she's white it's likely gonna root back to England anyway.

No American really classes themselves as British though even if their heritage shows that. Because of the war for Independence.

If you were born in the US, you are American. But I think you can claim citizenship in both countries. As far as I know you need to put in a claim for British citizenship (not automatic), but I could be wrong on that.

Also, if you are 18, there might be an age limit when you can apply for it. So if you are not already a British citizen, you need to get on the ball if you want to do it.

Ah I feel you! my mom is Italian and my dad is American and my whole life as a child was a mix of both but I am American even tho I love Italy more but it’s a fact. Now same thing is happening to my kids since their dad is British. As for you I feel you are more of an American than English but the answer lies inside your heart, in which country do you love more and feel drawn to then you will know.

However, if you have American citizenship and not British, then you're American legally.

You have an American passport - not a British. You can get a short stay visa to the UK, but cannot work or claim there.
