Why are Americans so patriotic?

Like I get having pride in one’s country but I feel many people in the US take it way too far. To the point where even the slightest criticism will make them defensive and upset. Like forgive me if I’m wrong but if you really love your country wouldn’t you want to fix it’s flaws and better it? Not ignore said flaws and live in ignorant bliss?

I love Australia but I sure as hell will criticise it. I want my country to be the best and most prosperous country for the people it can be an will call out issues and corruption where I see them.

It is instilled in the brain. Stand up and say the Pledge of Allegiance. Sing "God Bless America" until your lungs explode. Worship Presidents (who have the "R" next to them). support only one type of race, and shun the other kind of race. Anyone who speaks against your POV is a "socialist" or "communist" its the American way..

As a third generation military veteran I feel that it is right to be patriotic for my country. As the third generation of my mother's family in this country, there is living memory of how much better it is in America than Germany. No country is perfect, but thousands of people a day are willing to risk their and their entire family's deaths to come here because of how much better America is than where they just left, and they can't all be wrong.

It’s cause on both front. Not going to lie the republicans are hypocritical. They profess that this country is founded on the basis of freedoms of the people. However they want to infringe on the rights of women with their reproductive rights. I am pro choice, I am also pro gun.

The government shouldn’t infringe on peoples rights, so long as those rights to do not harm or negatively affect others. We saw this with the vaccine mandate, myself as well as Republicans were saying “my body my choice” pertaining to the mandate… so why cannot women have that same philosophy with their reproductive rights? Personally a good government is one that is consistent with it’s policies

I respect your perspective, here is mine...
I also pro choice and I don't mind guns. There are counties in Europe where guns are legal. Not even close to the same gun per capita that the US has of course, they have way more restrictions on firepower and on who can actually buy one. That can be seen as a restrictions of freedom, I see it as safety, since they don't have nearly zero mass shootings per year.
I know that the US context is different regarding guns, since you have so many already around you might feel safer if you also have one. But if you have a weapon, you are more likely to use it. More people with a gun means more people solving disputes with them instead of their fists, just because they have them close by. Not to mention they are literally the main method for suicide among US men. Again, because they are easy to use, right there in a moment where you are not thinking straight.

About the vaccines. I don't know how it was in the US, were in Europe the only jobs that required a vaccine where health professionals, which makes sense. Regarding traveling and entering public spaces also makes sense, since we are trying to prevent the spreading. But you did have a choice to not take it. You can chose to be able to travel, work etc, or you can chose not to. I am sure MANY people there didn't took the vaccine by their own choice. Today they can do everything normally and still didn't took it. No freedom of choice was taken away.

Well yeah because honestly these days there are so many people that are too sucked into their own beliefs and ideologies. That the second they come across someone that disagrees with them on a single topic they immediately shame them and call them names. I don’t agree with this, we all share this home we call the planet. There’s no point being at each other’s throats arguing over dumb shit tbh.

As a pro gun guy, I totally understand and see where you’re coming from. I do, because yes unfortunately mass shootings happen by fire arms. Unfortunately too however just like many other inventions that man kind has created over time. Guns aren’t going away. There are even people that can make 3D printed guns so long as they know what they’re doing, that being said. This is why I feel more people need to be aware that outright banning guns wouldn’t solve the issue of violence, bloodshed and killing with guns. Especially now since not only many people know how to make them, there is a black market of guns. Just like there is the market of selling illegal controlled substances such as meth, fentanyl, etc. it’s horrible. There have been instances where a potential mass shooting was stopped by good law abiding citizens that just like the mass shooter, was armed. Sadly, where most mass shootings happen, (schools being the most prevalent places) weapons are not allowed on the premises. Even by faculty. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t allow faculty to arm themselves in the event a mass shooter walks onto their campus with the intention to kill as many people possible. Not only this, but there hasn’t been a federal mandate that all schools increase security. Even after all these mass shootings. It really breaks my heart to see these tragedies take place.

Aside from this, we seriously have seen an increased rate of people having severe mental decline. Which isn’t getting addressed

I really enjoy civilized discussions. I know that I am most likely not going to change anyone's mind, but still enjoyable.

I admitted that the context in the US regarding guns is different and is because of what you said. To many going around, the black market and even the capacity to 3D print them, makes it so that even if they are banned they will still be a problem. When they banned guns in Australia they didn't had that situation in hands and that's why it worked there. That's the strongest pro gun point that I know. And I can agree to have low gun control specifically in the US, depending on a question... Since criminals will always have easy access to guns, does giving the general population the same access actually helps?
1. Some mass shootings are done by the general population and if they had that access they might not be able to get one.
2. Even people with guns have no guarantee to stop the shooter. The police had guns and took over an hour to act on that school shooter. Colorado if I remember correctly... Anyway we can't expect that an exchange of gunfire will always solve or defuse the situation. If we arm the teachers, the future shooters will know the teacher has one, so the first target is chosen. We would be putting a target on their heads.
Do you any numbers or stats on this? That people with guns actually reduce violence?

The rise in mental health issues, part of if was due to covid. Many restrictions, people had to stay at home, people were freaking out. In my opinion the other part is due to a social shift that is undergoing.
