Recently, my friend and I were called racist because we think it's disrespectful to refer to a person you know and everyone else knows by their race or any other traits. My friend gave an example using me. I'm Mexican, so my friend said it would be disrespectful to say, "Hey, Mexican boy, bring me some coffee, please", vs saying, "Wally, bring some coffee, please". We never even mentioned anything about it being racist but he said that we were racist for thinking that. He also said, "only right wing extremists think it's racist to not call people by their ethnicity". Do you think he's right? Do you think he might be insane or just a typical race baiting liberal?
I can't speak to that being racist. Because being Mexican is not about "race".
I can only speak to it being offensive. And if you are calling a person that, and they tell you to stop, but you continue to do it anyway, you are being offensive.
I think that is basic common sense.
There is no such thing as some universal standard for what is offensive.

Should tell your friend to stay out of the ghetto areas of the US gonna get shot with that type of slacking language in some areas like Detroit. Ya wanna use names not a persons origin location. Cause you wanna be specific as who your talking to, one never wants to be mistaken for insulting a persons place of origin. Unless you want a piece of lead to be your last meal.

Quite the opposite actually. It shows respect to use their name.
What you saw there was an example of leftist hypocricy.. With them everything is about race. With those that aren't racist, we could care less about the color of one's skin.
Trust me on this, using their name is the better choice. I suggest you ignore idiots that think it's racist to use a name.first: reflect who and what kind of person said that to you,
second: woke Karens that are offended by the slightest thing should be ignored,
third: the stupidest thing you could do is follow their advice
honestly because of the extreme toxic behaviour woke culture displays, its no wonder we see a rise in right winged people
What the hell kind of moron thinks that referring to someone by their name is racist?
Between friends, it's crass and you need more respect from such "friends". But you do you.
In a workplace, it's instant dismissal.
I find it racist/offensive to say Hey, Mexican boy instead of to say Hey, Wally. I mean, that’s what names are for! If a person would prefer to be called by their race instead of their name, fine by me, but I recall no such people.
what kind mental gymnastic nonsense is this. coming from a guy who thinks misfortunate isn't a word LOL.
Smh no
Was that mexican boy shirtless and works for Applebees?
That’s pathetic really, No one should be offended If someone called them by their ethnicity.
It depends. Is his name Wally? Is it racist if I call him Manuel?
